ah well, lol

was driving down the interstate at about 80mph, went into a sweeping left

the airflow managed to get under the right hand front side of the tonneau cover, obviously lifted it, then once it lifted it a bit, game over, saw the thing fly into the sky in rear view mirror.

initially i thought, did i not secure it, like an idiot?

well, when i pulled over and looked in the bed, both the yellow clamp hook things on the right side were snapped in half and lying in the bed, meaning they were secured and snapped under the pressure from the air.

i never thought the cover looked sturdy not well made, this confirms my suspicion. (2019 power wagon).

now the question is what quality product to replace it with? bearing in mind i dirtbike a lot and will often need the full bed space to load bikes. peragon? retrax? foldacover?

i would also recommend anyone buying not get the factory part, it was about the only ordering mistake i make with my 2019 power wagon

I use soft tonneau and they will withstand user errors... I had mine flapping twice at highway speed because I forgot to close it. Had to do emergency stop but it was 100% intact.

Roll-up and store in the least amount of space. Compatible with bed camera too.

Current one (Truxedo LoPro) is 12 yo now. Still good as new. I'm buying the same for my ordered 3500.

@jasonjm Retrax/pace Edwards and other similar covers take up about a square foot of bed space (12"x12" box that sits in there). If you really need every bit of space you need the ones that roll/fold up.

Truck Covers USA make a retractable that's aluminum ..Like the Retrax and the Pace Edwards it retracts in to a box in the bed but the box is 7inx7in smaller the competition Haven't had good luck with Pace or Retrax

What issues did you have with the retrax? I'm shopping the Retrax XR at the moment.

The Retrax I had on my F-350 was replaced around 5 years ago due to hail its was made from poly plastic .It was a huge cover but Retrax no longer makes that size out of poly any longer .The new one only lasted 3 years before the plastic started to separate from the aluminum piece where the lock is and where the bearings attached to cover started to break...Contacted Retrax and basically laughed at me .....If they don't make the large cover anymore was there a problem ?..Dont like the customer service

I vote for the roll up tonneau, as well.

my one was a soft cover that folder up into into 3 equal size parts all joined together

the clamps always felt cheezeball to me. not only that the first set of clamps should have been right at the front of the cover where the truck bed starts, so the front of the cover could never lift. the clamps were in the middle of the first partition.

i ordered the lo pro cover, local stores here in LA have it with free install. the good part is that it looks like it rolls up high and tight enough that my dirtbikes will fit just fine as it uses no extra space when rolled up, we shall see, i will take pics and of course look carefully to see this cover cant blow off somehow like my last one.

also because it rolls up i can close up the bed in the wilderness while i am on the bike, i never could take my other 3 part cover to wilderness as it used to much space in the bed, i couldnt get all my other gear in then,

Same here. My cover flew off on the freeway at 85 mph. I noticed in the rear view mirror the cover pieces flying off. I found the yellow clamp pieces lying in the bed which confirmed it was secured. Is it covered under the warranty as it is not the customer's fault? Which is a most reliable bed cover as I need to install one before my next long distance trip? Any recommendations?

Look at the Truxedo Sentry CT, mine has worked flawlessly for 3 years, easy to put the rolled up top on and take back off with no tools.

i bought that cover and its awesome. takes up zero space, rolls and unrolls in about 30 seconds no exxageration. most important part is that it takes up zero space so i can still load my dirtbikes and close the tailgate. will never look back at the factory cover again.
