According to TFL guys, RAM is looking for a new transmission for the HO trucks.

What do you think?

Personally, I think that an Allison MADE (unlike the GM made with Allison stamp on it) would be one hell of marketing heaven for RAM.

CUMMINS + ALLISON... Think about it... I can see them overtaking that market segment overnight.

I really like my 2019 3500 HO Aisin, but I would seriously consider trading it in for an HO with an Allison.

Interesting to know that the newer GM's Allison version (2020+) is GM made with Allison "stamp of approval" on it.

Even the 1000 series was a faux Allison. I had one and it was Lemon Lawed because of the Allison. No thanks. Their true heavy duty transmissions are very good, but the 1000 and this new thing are just marketing hype from Gimmick Motors.

I'm thinking that a genuine Allison tranny bolted to the Cummins would be a slam dunk for FCA.
The real Allisons start with the 2000 series, and they are likely too big and heavy for a pickup. The video talks about a "new" Allison. What's new? If it's got any relationship to the phony 1000 series, I'm out.

AFAIK, the 1000 series were build by Allison, just a lighter grade than their other commercial stuff. They were used in the Hummer so I guess it was good enough for the military (yeah the Hummer had a small engine). But the 1000 series were limited to 6XXlb/ft of torque so by today's standard they are unusable. So, that 9 speed is something new that Allison built as FCA is looking for a new provider and not trying to get their internal design rebadged.

Oh.... A quick google search says that Allison revealed in the last 12 months an updated 9 speed version of their 6 speed 2000 series.

Sounds like a real transmission to me!

The H1 also came with 6.2 and 6.5 diesels that were crank-snapping garbage, so there's that :p :p :p

I had a customer who spent his entire career as a, for lack of a better term, field engineer for GM. He was obviously GM all the way, BUT he was also brutally honest. He gave me a lot of insight into how GM will take a good concept, like an Allison, and give cost and weight parameters that render it nothing more than a marketing ploy. There are many examples. This is why I call them Gimmick Motors. There were several manufacturers who would not put their name on a component they considered sub-par, and chose not to play their game. But back to the 1000, I also had a long discussion with an Allison service and warranty shop, back in '04 when I was battling my issues, and he also volunteered that the 1000 was a strictly GM project, etc.

Sadly, none of these companies are beyond pawning off half-baked crap anymore, Ram included.

Unless the ZF deal fell through or didn't meet their expectations, I would think they would still go that route instead of Allison. Seems they've been testing it for awhile.

GM is now using their own built transmissions instead of the Allison built 1000/2000. Therefore, Allison has lost that business and all of those sales. How do they offset that loss? Market the 9 speed replacement to Ram. Should be interesting to see how it stacks up to the ZF Powerline 8 speed. The zf is rated for vehicles up to 57,000 lbs gross weight!

Allison’s got to be getting a licensing cut. So while they may not be making them physically, it’s possible that they’re making more from the proceeds of licensing it’s name then actually building a product.
