I am new to this forum stuff so if I do anything wrong SORRY. I have a 2021 Ram 3500 dually with air suspension in the rear and having issues. The service air suspension warning kept coming on so the dealer warrantied the air unit and reset everything then the truck did not ride right, very stiff like it had no air in the system again. I lowered the system and re inflated it and it seemed to work fine but still rides rough and now the service air suspeension system warning is back on. Is there anyone with this problem or who has had it that can hive me advice. It is going back to the dealer but I am about to go back to Chevy

Sorry you're having this problem; I'm sure it's frustrating.
I have a SRW with the rear air leveling. Fortunately mine has been solid (fingers crossed).

What do you mean by lowering the system and re-inflating?
If it's the same system I have, there needs to be some weight in the bed to lower (I could be wrong). Or perhaps that was just the trailer height mode.

Rough ride is certainly subjective, but what was the dealers response / fix last time?
Issues happen, regardless of brand. The dealer can often make or break someone's experience.

I believe I read on this forum somewhere that if the sensors are not even on the airbags that the truck will think its under load and over inflate the bags when riding empty. Not sure if thats the case here but inflated bags and an unloaded truck will ride super rough.

Not sure why that would trigger the service warning but figured I would throw that out there as a possible solution. I believe to remedy you need to adjust the links on the airbag sensors so they are in the same position exact position and not inflating incorrectly. When you feel the bags, do they feel equally inflated? And when unloaded do they feel basically empty?

On my radio I have an app for lowering the rear to get under trailers and I also have an alt.trailer height switch on the dash under the rsdio. The dealer replaced the air pump and tank which is one sealed unit.

  • Bed Lowering will only drop at most maybe 3/4" of an inch unless you have a lot of weight in the bed.
  • Air trucks only have about 1" of rake built in unloaded.
  • Air trucks are missing an overload leaf as compared to non-air trucks, so they tend to ride smoother.
  • The air suspension will try to level the truck to it's unladen stance.
  • Alt trailer Height will drop it 1".
  • If you overload the system, it will stop trying to add air and throw a code/warning.

A "Stiff" ride in an air truck typically indicates the bags are too hard, as in too much air. You also need to be mindful of tire pressures. As said, if the sensor arms are misaligned, it can cause too much air and a rough ride. Too little air unloaded would not likely manifest itself as rough. Unloaded the bags should have just a few PSI in them and be pliable.

You can also try to use transport mode to dump all pressure and compare that to normal.

I will say this if you are used to a chevy you will find any Ram/ super duty rough because chevys are not setup to carry asmuch weight they have always rode softer than all the other trucks out there thats one thing to remember i would try adjusting the bag sensors to see if any are out of alignment
