Digital Rear View Mirror

Skimmed thrust this thread, and It seems at this time, the digital rear view mirror is NOT retrofittable on 2019/2020 models yet?

As of this moment I don't think anyone has tried. I'd guess that there is a bcm item you have to change, but only if the bcm is the same between the 19-20 and 21+ trucks. I know that the edge monitors didn't display all the PIDs on the cummins engines for a while, so it may be similar here.

The other thing, I'm not sure how the bcms are programmed. I'm not sure if the 20 and lower trucks will get the updates for these controls since they don't have the capability from factory.

Infotainment is/was working on a retrofit the last time I chatted with them, so I'm currently holding out on that to keep it OEM. If not there seems to be an aftermarket option, and honestly, I don't know how hard it would be to just wire in. I have no clue what the terminal connectors look like, the bcm may be required as part of install, which may require purchasing a new bcm or something else.

So, long and short, still waiting. I don't think anyone wants to be the first to try considering the cost.

I’m kind of slowly working on it, but it’s on the back burner. I’ve got the mirror, camera, and a few various BCMs from 2019-2021 for my bench setup to test out and see what settings make it work. Infotainment claims they’ll have an OEM kit available for the 2019-2021’s soon, so, as long as they’re just using one of their genies to program the BCM for it, then AlfaOBD would be able to do it too.
I probably won’t really start spending time on it until spring, since I’ve got various other things I’m focusing on getting working.

Hi Jimmy, Any joy with adding the digital rear mirror to the 2020 2500? Infotainment don’t seem to have anything out as yet. Cheers

I have the digital rearview mirror and was going to get an RSI topper and put the trailer camera on top of it (I order XH7 with my truck)
But now my wife would rather have a Softopper.

This has me thinking I might just mount my trailer camera on my hitch or something. Anyone else done anything like this yet?

I've seen and heard of a few guys mounting above the license plate, or there about. You lose a bit of height but these trucks are already pretty tall so I don't know how much of an issue that really is, outside of just taking some time to adjust.

I'm currently looking into picking up an aftermarket unit to run for a bit, and debating where to install the cam. My thoughts are either to wire it to the top of the cap, and just run the line alongside the rails (I've also got an RSI), to run it inside the rear window of the cap looking out (downsides being dirt, but dirt could be on the cam anyway, so don't see that as a huge issue) or mounting somewhere in the tailgate (I wish it was possible or easier to just tie into the existing camera in the tailgate, perhaps there is a splitter that I could use, not sure.)

Found these Fakra Switcher modules..... Not cheap but clean, can be easily hidden and no need to switch cables routinely !!
https://advancedice.com.au/products/1374/
this would be a great option and control it with an AUX switch.
I got this and it will not pass video, got from AdvancedICE. They say it may be a different signal like the BMW or Land Rover. So my search continues. I want to use the Aux switch to activate the toggle.

Bumping up, I've been wanting to add the digital rear mirror to my 2020 3500 Limited. My wifes Infiniti QX80 has it and I enjoy using it. Anyone with a 2020 get it to work 100%? Thanks!

No, and it probably won’t ever be possible to use the factory DRVM because the linbus message packets are different between 2019-2020 and 2021-2022. Even though the mirror and camera is it’s own standalone system with power, ground, and video cable, for whatever reason it’s looking for an initial message from linbus at startup to get going.
BUT…Gentex makes the factory digital mirror, and this one is the exact same as far as the mirror itself (actually, the factory DRVM is quite limited as far as what the mirror is fully capable of):

The problem is, you really don’t need the digital camera that comes with it because you already need to buy the CHMSL, which is only sold with the camera installed. I suppose you can use it somehow as a secondary camera.

Also, looks like gentex has a version of that mirror that has several camera modes, Picture in Picture, pinch zoom screen, dvr, etc:

Would this work as a replacement for a Limited with all the tech? The only thing in the mirror is the auto dimming sensor correct?

Yes. You might need to swap out the mirror arm to get the correct clearance from the DASM, since this mirror has a universal type mount.

Looks tricky?

Also, it looks like the 2nd camera input is analog (NTSC) as referenced in the install doc I found..

Not too bad. You just slip this spring off the socket collar. De-pin the 12-way connector on the new mirror, and pin the 10-way connector on from the old mirror.

The one they are selling is only one digital and one analog input. I’m trying to find their fully loaded mirror from their site that I linked…

Awesome. LMK if you find one that has 2 digital.

Are we to assume these are compatible with the OEM LVDS cameras?

IOW, If I added the dual camera (assuming it's available), a 21+ CHMSL with rearview camera, and used their camera as the "tow mode camera" we could have a solution similar to the 22?
