Since the Ram only has one, I decided to use a USB port to power my Garmin GPS. All you need is a long USB cable that reaches from the trucks USB port to where ever you want to mount your GPS and with the correct plug for your GPS.
Carefully slice open the cables outer sheathing. There are 4 very tiny wires in a USB cable: Red is 5v power, black is ground and the other 2 are for data. Cut the two data wires and remove a 1/8 section of them so that they cannot touch when you tape up the wire.
Now your GPS can be powered from any USB port.
You must cut the data wires or your GPS will think it is plugged into a computer and will NOT allow you to access the navigation menu.
Do NOT modify the USB cable that came with your GPS, you will need that when you connect it to your computer for updates.
