Good morning everyone. Was hoping someone could confirm some info for me. Woke up yesterday morning and got a check engine light. When I checked the code it was P204F DEF issue. THe situation is that my wife has a surgery in Miami on Monday and I live in SC so we were planning on driving down on Friday but i was reading that the truck will go into limp mode at some point. Someone else pointed out to me that the 2020 wont go into limp mode it will just give me a countdown and get to a point where the engine will not start. Can anyone confirm that? My biggest worry was that I would be driving on the highway and the truck would go into said limp mode. I appreciate all of your help.

Sorry can’t give you the proper info hopefully someone will chim in quickly. Another thing to try is call a dealer and talk to the service desk and hopefully they can give you some accurate answers. DEF …. saving the environment and wrecking lives for 9 years now.

Appreciate it.

According to Mitchell the truck will be limited to 5MPH at some point. Sorry it doesn't say how many miles but the EVIC will tell you when you get the message. The repair procedure speaks to looking for shorts/opens in the circuit between the Dosing control unit and the PCM. As a shot in the dark I would separate and reconnect the harness at the DCU and the PCM. Dirty intermittent pin connection might make the voltage low at the DCU and set the code. Also check to make sure all your fuses are well seated. That was a problem in the past.
Good luck.

The MIL should reset after 3 successful key cycles when the problem goes away.
The DCU is mounted on top of the DEF tank and has two connectors. The PCM is on the left side of the engine.

So I cleaned the injector and the check engine light went away but the message is still there. I drove the truck a bit and the light never came back on. Does it usually take a bit for the message to go away or should it have gone away right away?
