Smell of burned plastic on start

So this heater is like having one of those portable electric heaters in your your house that you might use in your bedroom?
I think it is a coolant heater, like an electric bucket or immersion heater in the coolant system of the engine. The Diesel gets so much cold air into the cylinders that it is tough to heat up the coolant at low loads. A gas engine is throttled and does not cool that much from inside. A lot of modern passenger car Diesels have that coolant heater, some Minivans with Diesel engines have a real Diesel furnace in the system to heat the coolant. Another issue is the high efficiency of the Diesel, not enough Diesel fuel is "wasted for heat" as it is on a gas engine.

It is electric. Read a few posts back.

Discussion over…. My 22 3500 HO has no “electric cab heater”. Dealer said it must be an option. Pull your build list and it lists every part for your model….

I thought every modern diesel had a supplemental heater these days. My fathers 16 F350 has one. Diesels have so much thermal mass and coolant to heat up when cold - coupled with the fact they run so lean at idle its hard to get any heat out of them especially when the weather is cold. Thought they started doing the supplemental thing on most everything a number of years ago. I'd be really shocked if it didn't have it - dealer may be wrong as I doubt a build list has an exhaustive list of every piece of "standard" equipment. That would be 600 pages long...

If you’re going to spread information on the WWW, at least back it up with some presentation. Do like I did, go out to your truck right now and take a pic of this circuit panel. It’s right between the driver side battery and cowl. Then do some research as to what it powers and get back to me. I’ll be drinking my tasty dark as used diesel oil stout waiting to be proven wrong.

If your truck is equipped from the factory with a Cummins 6.7, and it is a model year 2019-2022, then it has the PTC cabin heater. Just like flan said above, pop the cover on your aux fuse box and show us what is inside with a pic. Then, post your VIN, and I’ll show you on your equipment listing where it says that your truck is equipped with it. Those are two very simple steps that will be very easy for you to take to prove everyone wrong. And if you don’t post back with at least the pic, no worries, we know why.

Per the equipment listing for my 2022 3500 HO CC DRW Longhorn, it is clearly listed.

“Supplemental heater”

It is real.
It is electric and has nothing to do with coolant.
It is standard on every CTD powered 4.5 generation truck.

I am just saying my DEALER didn't have a clue about it... and if there is an electric heater on my 2022 3500 it does not work, OK? I am not trying to say anyone is a liar.. although I did call Bull pucks... So to all who are miffed, offended, or melting snowflakes, I sincerely apologize. All is good as long as we are still breathing!

Most dealers are clueless so that means nothing and i guarantee it works put a thermometer in the vent with the truck unplugged in the cold start it and you will see it will blow warmer than ambient temp right away before the coolant gets up to temp…. You dont have a one in a million truck without one….

Circled in blue below are your cabin heater relays and fuses. If the fuses aren’t blown, the system is working…bottom line. The rest of the fuses and relays in that box is for the aux switches that you have. You started off by telling us “discussion over, you don’t have one”, now you’re trying to dig out by saying it must not work…A4EEB149-A3DE-4C09-AB95-4A7045F4B605.jpeg

Now I know dealer can be full of crap, but , someone said send us a picture, I did and still you have to attack.... Are you a snowflake Jimmy? I will admit I am wrong when proven... But when the GD service manager at the dealer I paid for my truck at says he has not clue???? I am supposed to believe you??? OK... You are right Jimmy Bobby..... I am wrong... I am full of crap, I am a liar, I don't know what I am talking about.... EVERYONE ON HERE... JIMMY BOBBY CAUGHT ME RED HANDED... I am a LIARE A CHEAT AND A THEIF.... LOL JIMMY BOBBY...GFY! [MOD: If this means what I think it means, this will be your one and only (other) warning against using this kind of antagonistic language here. Also, Jimmy is a well respected contributing member of this community, and MANY other online forums, and doesn't deserve this type of hostility.]

Just because fuses aren't blown doesn't mean the system is working. Could have a bad heater unit, faulty wiring, control side that isn't working etc.

OP it sounds like it should go to the dealer and have them take a look at it. I'd imagine it would be under a warranty.

You may of gone more miles in reverse than jimmy has gone forward but when it comes down to it he’s helped more people on this board and and that’s what these boards are about. Name calling and general hurling of insults won’t get you anywhere on this board. You could of took the high road a page or 2 back and just ate some crow but you insisted you were right. We tried and tried to help you and once you finally did realize you were wrong you took the low road. This rant is uncalled for and you should put some more miles going forward and see yourself out the door.

You are a delicate little flower aren't you everyone told you that you were wrong except one idiot service advisor at a dealer (who just sits there and sells old people stuff they don't need to justify their position and have no clue what a vehicle has or does not have)…. Its not a 10,000w heater that will blast you with heat the second you start the truck i live in northern canada we had -41 today i know what cold is and no one said it heats the cab up quickly but it will get the heat in the cab above the ambient temp in short time use a thermometer in the vent and you will know if its working or not you cant go off how you feel in the cab….. and no one cares how many miles you have driven

I have learned that people in the USA are very polite, in general. I think that is the ultimate way of culture and how people should be living with each other.
If you have visited Japan or other Asian countries......I absolutely like how polite people are, maybe even a step beyond people in the USA.
Growing up in Germany always meant you tell people unfiltered what was on your mind- it was often rude and looking back not a very desirable way of communication.
Reading some threads in this forum here looks like many members are from Germany! LOL.
Why not communicate like face to face?
