Possible to add 120VAC outlet to bed?

So on newer (2021+ I think?) a bed mounted 120VAC outlet/ receptacle is mounted in the bed on some trucks.
My 2019 has they 120VAC outlet on the center console , and I have literally never used it. However, the bed mounted one would be useful for charging a phone while camping in the bed.
Is it possible/feasible to retrofit? What all might be required?

I suppose an easier option would be to run a hot 12v lead into the bed/topper for a cigarette lighter with a USB plug in it…but I like the idea of the OEM outlet if it were all plug and play

The factory one is rated at 400w. Enough to charge a phone. The biggest problem I would see would be is the wiring, although I’m sure it could be done given enough time or money.
Your 19 should have the blunt cut wires for the battery + or ignition + located above the spare tire would be easy to mount a usb/cigarette plug and wire up.

The blunt cut wires are allegedly not hot and don’t run back to the cab even unless you have the aux switches (which I don’t)

Does it not need the engine to be running? I have never tried my in cab one with the engine off but at 400W i dont see the oem one working without the engine on atleast not for long…. I use my in cab one all the time as have a M18 charger in the truck for when im on the road i can charge my Milwaukee batteries for the set of tools that stay in the truck

I haven’t messed with it yet, other than to turn it off. I turned it off because I didn’t want it hot when the truck wasn’t running. Just in case.

That being said not sure it is hot when truck isn’t running.

I’ll play with here in a bit and let you know. The outlet I mean. I’ll play with the outlet.

There is a switch on the kick panel, under the steering wheel, by the emergency brake to turn the bed mounted plug on and off.

I haven’t messed with it yet, other than to turn it off. I turned it off because I didn’t want it hot when the truck wasn’t running. Just in case.

The cab outlet has no switch and i dont have the bed one so i cant even play with it lol

The bed outlet only switches on with the kick panel switch when ignition is on. I believe the in cab one is only on with ignition as well. I haven't tried to run either without the engine running, but assume it would for a little bit at least.

I've used my bed one to charge a cordless drill battery, and once got creative with one of my led work lights plugged into the bed outlet and strung over my trailer for a back up light.
