Is anyone running an onboard air compressor for truck?

If so, please pass along what is working for you.

Here is what my needs are for a system:

Able to inflate and deflate bags from the comfort of the cab and compressor must have the ability to have a second point to hook up various air tools.

I have a Viair 450c compressor mounted under the truck on the passenger side, hooked up to a 2.5 gallon tank. I mounted a 6 port distribution manifold midpoint under the bed and ran a line with a quick disconnect into the bed along with the pressure gauge. I routed the intake and filter in the cab, pushing it up into the storage bin that is drivers side back of cab. You won’t run a lot of air tools on these compressors unless you put in a much larger tank. For inflating tires and other misc tasks, as well as my horn, it works well.

I mounted the compressor using the Viair bracket to the sheetmetal under the cab with rivnuts, I welded up some brackets for the tank and then welded that to the frame in a position that allows me to remove the tank, should I need to.

This is fantastic! Thank you . I’d love to see a photo of your manifold.

Just out of curiosity, what kind of horn are you running?

Hornblasters Outlaw along with their wireless remote. Works great.

I have something very similar setup.

@The HOFF do you get vibrations in the cab from the compressor? My wife complains about it all the time… she didn’t laugh when I suggested she might enjoy it.

I like how you ran your quick disconnect and gauge. I was lazy and wanted to use the hole that was already in the bed.

I really don’t. I ordered an extra pad plate along with some other pads to absorb all vibrations. Same plate that comes on other compressor systems.
Now I will admit I’m moving compressor. After 18 month my compressor has failed due to moisture into it and failing. Will be mounting in the bed under my bed box up and out of the water and moisture. Might even store in the cab behind seat too with same pad plate and pad cushions.

I used rubber bushings, I should have used a rubber pad under the mounting bracket.

Yes used those too. Also added two usb chargers and power plug too. Trying to find picture.

How is it working out now that you moved compressor to bed? Any pictures? I'm thinking of doing the same except it will be mounted under tonneau canister.

Haven’t had time to move it yet.

Just out of curiosity, what do you all use your compressor for? I would love to do something like this for when my son and I go ATV racing. It would be nice not to have to carry the air tanks lol, but man these prices are pretty high for compressors.

I'd love to know what you all are using yours for!

I’m always checking or adding air to my truck or RVs or someone in my family of 5. I’ve also helped others with low pressure in there tires. Fill up floats for lake, air dry after car wash etc but mostly for Rv tires.

What specific tank are you running? I am trying to fond one that will definitely fit on my ‘22 2500 mega cab.

Thx
