2022 Ram Tow/Trailer Camera Options

It looks like you can buy wiring and camera that is used for rearview mirror.

The thing is this camera doesn’t have the right housing, but it is doable installation.

I am pulling a travel trailer now, but thinking to get a fifth wheeler. I would be interested in solution for bed installation.

OK - thanks for info - will let you be pioneer on this one. Please post results.

With respect to 12 pin trailer camera connection on truck. I did not order this connection but it is on my truck. I tried but it kicked out other options.

Turns out the 12 pin connector on bumper came on my Longhorn with Level 1 pkg in addition to the coax FAKRA connector with my $995 TowMode Digital camera / Digital rear view mirror pkg (No Safety Grp).

If you already have the Digital Rear view mirror you should be able to add the Tow Mode Trailer Camera for about $450 as i recall.

12 pin connector appears to come with the TRUCK 360 view camera system which is part of other packages. And the 12 pin camera system is only viewed in the Uvonnect screen.

As to using it on trailer cameras i did not purchase those options so i can only go by manual and it appears the Trailer 360 is limited to low speed like the TRUCK 360. So its not like an RV system that can be on full time driving down the road.

And because of the 12pin connectors limitations - specifically number of contacts - my understanding is you have to choose between 360 Trailer view and Trailer Rear View.

But i believe you can run the rear view full time and potentially put it inside trailer but you would lose its rear view function in Uconnect screen. Not sure about any other aux cameras but i think you are limited to rear view + either the trailer 360 OR MAYBE 1 other aux camera. And in any case you can use only 1 at a time. Info is confusing at best.

As to the coax Trailer Mode Camera, it too could be put inside or used as a rear view on back of trailer as originally intended. But it appears to be the second camera in that system with the first being the Truck’s digital rear view system in the high mounted brake light. These are selectable but both display only in the Digital Rear View mirror.

So the best option for interior view with rear view might theoretically be to use the Towmode coax as Trailer rear view and the 12 pin single camera inside (assuming the 12 pin rear view can operate full time which i can not answer as i did not get that pkg).

Hope that helps rsther than adding to confusion.
CAN ANYONE CONFIRM that the 12-pin Trailer Rear Camera 82215 770AB which displays in the UConnect Screen can be used as a REAR VIEW as opposed to a BACKUP ONLY / 10 sec view

It doesn’t matter what camera option it is- there is no camera at all that will display on the radio screen for more than 10 seconds while traveling over 8mph.

So what am I getting? Will I have the magical plug to add a camera to the back of my trailers and display it on the rear view mirror?

Looking for some confirmation/suggestions on the camera/trailing options for building a 2022 3500 Laramie. We have a Jayco Talon 335T toy hauler that is prewired for a rear camera and cargo camera. This thread has a lot of info and based on that I am looking at building with the following options:

AVF: Which includes the digital rear view mirror (GRG) and tow mode camera - wired (XH7)
XN1: Trailer surround view camera kit

Questions:
1) Are there connectors for the XN1 cameras on both the bumper and in the box?
2) If I want a rear view during towing that will be via the digital rear view mirror and a 2nd camera on the back of the toyhauler? The other camera on the back of toyhauler would be for the surround view?
3) The views from the side cameras wil not be available during towing like some of the aftermarket stand alone camera systems - Furrion, Haloview, etc?
4) Is there anyway to tie in a cargo camera to the truck systems - mirror or Uconnect? Or, will I need to tie a camera in with our Garmin RV GPS?

Thanks

1. If you order a truck with the XN1 (Trailer Surround) your truck will have the 12 pin camera system connector on both the bumper (above the 7 pin) and in the bed (if you order in conjunction with the 5th wheel / gooseneck towing prep package)

2. Yes, if you want a constant rearview from behind the trailer you need the digital rearview mirror and the camera mounted on the back of the trailer. However, be advised there is no provision to connect the tow mode digital Rearview mirror in the bed. That connector is only available on the rear bumper.

3. The view from the side cameras of the XN1 system can be individually selected and viewed while traveling at highway speed, however this will only display for approximately 8 seconds and then you will be returned to the camera menu. It is not a constantly streaming live feed. This holds true for all truck cameras as well.

4. As of right now, I am unaware of any method to tie in aftermarket systems with the uconnect platform but I’m sure if there is, Jimmy07 is the man to ask.

As I understand it - (Note: I do not have the surround view or the other rear camera that uses the 12 pin setup)

Depending on what package(s) you order on truck I believe any with the 12 pin will get the 12 pin camera connector in both locations (bumper and bed) unless you get the Rambox option in which case there are no connectors in bed. The 12 pin connector functions in only one location at a time - and you have to go under truck to manually change from bumper connector to bed connector.

Any camera(s) using the 12 pin connector display in the UConnect Screen and are limited part time use (backup, 10 sec, or under 8 mph). If you have the older aux Rear trailer camera that also uses the 12 pin (NOT TOWMODE) as well as the Trailer Surround View, you can must choose between Rear or Surround Function in display.

The packages which include the 12 pin connector include the Trailer Surround View pkg and an Aux Rear (Backup?) Camera pkg and possibly others, Also, as I understand it, any Truck pkg that includes TRUCK Surround View has the 12 pin (mine does even though I did not order any pkg specifically using the 12 pin connector)

The TowMode wired (coax) camera is the only camera that functions as a full time rear view camera and it displays only in the rear view mirror and at this time THE ONLY CONNECTOR IS TO LEFT OF LICENSE PLATE ON REAR BUMPER - NO CONNECTOR IN BED!

All cameras (and presumably wiring) appear to be proprietary MOPAR only. As far as I can tell from previous posts, they will not connect to other camera systems, nor can you convince other systems to display in the UConnect or the Mirror. TOWMODE Coax Wiring is total length limited (40 ft?) and can not be split by conventional means without significant loss of signal. I believe the Trailer Surround view comes with a box (splitter / amplifier????) that goes on front of trailer and marries the individual camera wires before going to the 12 pin to the truck (NOTE: I do not have this option so treat as hearsay)

Does anyone know when Ram will begin selling the 40' Tow Mode rear view camera to us as an accessory available after getting the new truck with the plug in the left side of the license plate?

It seems that there are many of us who have both the 12 pin on the right and the small one on the left who did not specifically order any camera hardware. And of us, I would think many would have a desire to move the digital rear view to the back of the trailer being pulled rather than looking at the front wall of the trailer from the cab.

Aux trailer camera refers to the analog trailer camera that you can mount anywhere you want, and is different than the trailer surround view system. Aux 1 and aux 2 are the same cameras, there is no difference. You will only be capable of using one of those two cameras, which will be called “aux 2” on the radio cameras menu screen.
XN1 just includes the trailer surround view kit- trailer harness, 4 digital cameras, 4 cables for those cameras, and CVPM. It does not include an aux camera. The soft key in the radio for aux 2 is a byproduct of of having truck surround view and trailer surround view configured in the BCM. The wires present for the aux 2 camera on the truck side are a byproduct of having the 12-pin trailer connector.
@Jimmy07, I have a 2022 3500 Bighorn with the Tech Package and 360° cameras but no digital rearview mirror. I have the 7-way and 12 pin on the right side bumper and in the bed but it's currently wired to the bed side due to the 5th wheel prep. And just a blank plug on the left side of the bumper, while looking under the truck to see where I would swap the wires for going from bed to bumper 12 way I noticed the coaxial black female plug with a dummy plug in it coming out of the harness (see pic IMG_6391). Could I buy the plug that goes into the bumper when available and make the coaxial work on my truck as well?

I also took some pics of my 12" radio stating trailer surround camera and Aux 2 that I can select but says camera system unavailable, connect trailer equipped with trailer surround view system.

I'm so confused on what camera kit to buy for my truck that would work with my options. I would prefer a single or surround that would display in the UC5, let me know what part #'s that would be.

I have a 2022 3500 Limited SRW 6.4 ordered with XH7 Tow-Mode Camera (Wired) and XN1 Trailer Surround View Camera System but with ramboxes. I plan to add a B&W gooseneck to the bed. I as many have stated previously would like to add the 7 and 12 pin connectors to the bedside for towing. I understand moving the 7 pin and have seen plenty of parts available to do so. I would like to find the parts for the 5th wheel bed prep that places the 7/12pin connector in the bedside. I know I can't run the 12 pin from the bumper and the bedside at the same time, don't plan on bumper towing anything. Whether parts are available or not I understand supply and demand and limited production of parts and availability, but what I don't understand is that the parts aren't even able to be found or listed as existing. What I would like to find and buy would the the 7/12pin plate for the connections and the wiring whether the 12pin piggy backs off the of the bumper connection or goes to a body harness. I have seen where others, Brutal I think, has taken pictures of the parts but those part numbers are non-existent when looking them up. Basically like this kit but for a 2022. Anyone having any luck completing this on their own so far?

Here are a few part #'s I pulled off my 2022 3500 Bighorn that has the 5th wheel prep and 360° cameras. The harness 68525632AA with the arrow is the harness that goes from the bed 7-way and 12 pin housing to under the bed and 68453200AA is the plastic housing that mounts to the bed that holds the 7-way and 12 pin.

There is a wiring kit (or at least a wiring set) for the 12pin in the bed - I cant remember where I found it, but if I understand correctly it was only the 12 pin - but there is a separate MOPAR kit for the 7 pin. I think you can combine to get the 7/12 pin setup in bed - just have to figure a place to put it - no good flat surface big enough. The mounting plate can be bought separately under $10 if you want to try and figure placement 6845 3200 AA. If I can find the MOPAR 12 pin wiring set again, I will post that.

I have found nothing for the TowMode Wired camera coax which displays full time in the digital rear view.

Ask and ye shall receive! Thanks to both for some part numbers to work with. For the tow mode camera I was planning to get another mounted connector like is left of the license plate, disconnect the wire from the bumper connector and see where it would reach to around the bed for potential mounting spots to keep all the wires in the bed. Thank you gain for the info, love this forum.
