Anybody do a CB install for the truck above with the same tech package (in photos attached).

I’m curious as to where you put your CB and how you mounted it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I do use one only because of work. I am out in very remote areas that a lot of times do not have cell coverage. I am able to most always call for assistance on a CB if needed.

I have never had to do it however when I am out, I turn it on for a comms check with whomever is around the areas I’m in. I conduct a radio check then get off. I just feel the need to have a life line should I need one for any reason.

I’m a big fan of redundancy when comms is possibly needed for assistance or much needed help.

Few people have done cb installs. The 29 being a descent sized rig combined with your trim limiting your options is a tight squeeze.

Like myself it seems more common us tradesman guys install radios of sorts.

I can’t offer real guidance but I know some of these nicer consoles like yours have pockets besides your knee ? Or installing under your elbow in storage and pulling the mic only when necessary.

Hopefully more will chime in. Free bump either way.

Thanks for commenting. The outer hardened console pocket is more by the thigh. I have thought of mounting it there however I’m looking for a solution to not drill holes and make it slide in and out when I need the CB in the cab.

I’ll be building A test fit solution tomorrow with its OEM mount and a couple pieces of wood. (I’ll post pics after).

If there are ideas, please share.

I hope y’all had a great Christmas and will have a Fantastic New Years!

What about mounting it inside your upper glove box ? I don't know the depth of your CB but mount it to where you open the door and it's flush. That way it's hidden unless using it.

Ooooh man, I’ll certainly look at this option tomorrow! Thanks for the suggestion.

Happy new year to you as well and thanks in advance for the pics. Looking forward to your experimenting. That 12” display and full console is a beautiful and awesome design. If it has been in my budget…

Good luck to you.

Thanks farmallboy . Are you a CB guy with a 5th Gen?

So without removing the Dash and seeing what’s behind the upper compartment, the area is very short. I have gotten in touch with a fabricator to see what he says and if he’s able to help as this is a shallow compartment.

He’s pretty busy and am hoping to have an answer later on this afternoon.

Technically no.

I have ran a cb in a couple trucks and I have a base setup. But my current 5th gen ram has a dual band ham radio and a scanner installed.

I have an 11m I plan on installing but it’s on a long list of projects that never gets shorter and it is low in priority

I work white collar and my truck is mostly for weekend warrior and tow needs. But my towing is usually local so I really don’t have a need for 11m like you. I am a nerd, old farm kid, and have a trucker as a father. So the radio is just an interest/hobby. So that means it hasn’t had priority and given time for the install. Working 6 days a week and having a toddler well you probably get the picture ha.

Update: I tried getting hold of my fabricator. This dude is pretty busy and doesn’t really have time to do much other work as of right now. So I thought about:

Taking a couple pieces of pallet wood and cutting them down to the size that I need them and screwing the OEM bracket into those and sliding the would brackets I made into the pocket.

With that being said the OEM bracket is sticking out the top and then I take the two side wing nuts or nuts and screw the bracket into the radio itself.

I wanted to be able to make this a non-permanent installation as I am the one doing it not having any skills whatsoever of fabricating anything in this truck. I wanted to make this as painless as possible for me yet completely functional as to where when I need the radio I can actually slide the unit in and hook up and use it and when I don’t need the radio I can disconnect the power source and the antenna leave the connector ends in the pocket and run the truck without the radio. Please see photos below:

Where you see the screws that were cut off, that’s where the pallet wood is attached to the OEM bracket...

On the other side, that’s what slides into that pocket!

So far it is extremely secure and has not shifted as of yet. I have gone 43 miles this far with it mounted and yet to hear rattling or seeing it shift.

It sure if I slam brakes it would move roughly .5”.

Remove that pocket from the dash. Take a zip wheel and cut the back of that pocket the size of the cb slide it through. Take two 1/8' pieces of alum flat stock big as the rear of that panel. Cut holes in them that the cb will slide through. Make a sandwich of rear of that panel one inside and one outside, bolt them together. This will give it strength and some place to securely mount the cb. Install a small L bracket to the metal to hold the CB in place.

I couldn't imagine driving with my leg hitting that for more than 5 mins, would drive me bonkers haha

Buddy, I totally get ya. I have a Savannah trip tomorrow. I’m going to flush out the kinks to see faults of this mod without modding OEM Parts of the truck.

I was hoping for a non truck/ component mod solution from my fabricator....... Sooo I did the mach-upto see what I may be able to do for a major improvement over the current MACH-up. I will continue to post pics as I go through this adventure.

I will send this to another fabricator near by and ask to come up with some CAD drawings for me to look at for potential implications.

Thank you for your help.

Update 2: so I went to Savannah today for a round trip with the CB pictures above.... Wow did I learn a lot lol.

I had to do it...

Second mock up: So next I’ll be constructing an upright coming out of the consul pocket that has a HD hinge and platform that is able to unforced and lay flat above the center consul opening. I will most likely use multiple 17 lb. command strips to attach the CB to the platform holding it in place.

This will allow easy removal from the platform that unfolds from the upright.

I’ll post pictures when I get it constructed.

Keep up the good work and pictures. Due to size I wasn’t going to fuss with my 29 but inspiration can strike anytime

Size is my issue as well however, I love this classic that much that I’m willing to try to implement it into the truck for use.

I already had some materials laying around the house I figured I would do a mock up with to see how feasible a hinged plate sitting on uprights that fit into the side pocket of the consul would work.

Part 1:

Two hinges
Two plate steel ANG, 14 GA
One Aluminum Tread Plate.
One 1/8”x1-1/4”-3’ stock
All of this will be held together by JB Weld.

The photo you see is the underside of the mock up.

Pray for me, my wife is not home for her to see me do this on her Butcher Block Island

Here is mock up number two. This would be the part the CB unit would sit on.

I’ll take more photos and post when I get more finished.
