Hemi vs Cummins

I was just gonna say that sounds like California or as I call it Kalif****dupfornia. I hated that when I lived there. It was a great place when I was young. I moved to Colorado end of 2013 and love it here. Here in America I pay 3.13/gallon at a few places for diesel and $3.45 for regular unleaded. Yep you read that right. I think they add something like $1.29/gal in fuel tax.
Sorry if it sounds like I’m rubbing it in. I am! But I also understand some folks can’t move and I feel for you bro. That’s truth.
Hang in there. Hopefully it gets better there. Cali is the most beautiful fun place with so much to offer. It’s truly a shame it’s so messed up. $4.66/gal.
Tell us how you really feel…..

Honestly I’ve seen this discussion before on a Nissan Frontier forum. The best response to the mpg question is: if you bought a truck and are trying to squeeze every mpg out of it then you should have gotten a Prius.

I wrote that post you are referring to the other day on either this thread or the new truck thread saying then get a prius! Too funny.
Yeah, I’m pretty opinionated regarding California. It was such an awesome place and then it just went to s**t. All my friends and my family still live there and it’s sad. They really wrecked it. He was serious. $4.66/gal is actually a good deal. I was there for thanksgiving and it was over $5/gal for diesel. Everything is stupid expensive and there the homelessness is unreal and almost understandable with cost of living there.

I live in CA still. We were going to leave but when the wife got pregnant it was easier to stay as we have my parents here to help us with her. We will likely leave in 4 or 5 years when she's a bit older and is in school. The only other choice would have been to move to New Jersey near her parents and I am not living in jersey. Everyone has their reasons for living somewhere. Like my parents were gonna move but decided to stay because of our baby. They said they'll only get a new house if it becomes too hard for them to go up and down the stairs.

Personally where I live there isn't really any homeless, mainly because people won't put up with it, but if I go a few miles south there is.

Either way that's irrelevant to the thread.
Personally I never understood the obsession people have with mpg on trucks. My frontier gets maybe 15 city and 23 hwy. That's just off the top of my head. I also barely drive it, so a tank lasts me more than a month.
I ordered a 2500 because we needed a bigger truck with the kid and dogs. I always wanted a diesel so I went with that. In the future we plan on getting either a trailer or a boat and in discussing it with a friend of mine, he said it's easier to figure out what kind of trailer you want when your truck can easily tow 80% of what's out there. Mind you he's a Chevy guy and he even said he wouldn't mind a dodge.

Thats the beauty of being old enough to retire. The wife retired in 2018, which allowed us to escape Commifornia for Las Vegas NV. But the liberals have penetrated Las Vegas, and even though its cheaper than Commifornia, its trying to implement a lot of the crap that sent us packing. So we moved to Kentucky, and like it a lot better than the Left Coast.

How is my claim stupid?
I get better mileage here in Colorado then I did in California. It is what it is. I use a calculator and fill up every time till the first click, wait about 30 seconds and hit it again till it clicks. Or I calculate till the first click. I do both. I check about 50% of the time when fuel up. How is that stupid?
If you move to another state, don’t choose Colorado. We’re pretty nice folks. Pretty sure it’s not nice to call others stupid. We’re smarter than that.

Im sure you're nice as pie, but go back and re-read my comment. Nowhere did i call you stupid.

Now.. for the reason your comment was beyond stupid, see below.

Maybe note to yourself to travel outside your own little box every once in a while. He's not saying it's because of the fuel.

I experienced the same thing working there. Your dealing with tons of traffic. Lots of slow down speed up. Stop and go. And getting on it to merge, make your gap. Making overall mileage go down.

Vice versa. Vegas to la is always the best mileage I ever get in any vehicle I have as long as there is not weekend traffic

Thanks for the life advice, I'll be sure to note that. I worked in Henderson, CO for 18 months straight from 2018 to the middle of 2019. Here's a life hint for you--that state is as bad or worse than CA.

It's also odd that while traveling through 7 other states on a 2 week Yellowstone trip this past summer (CA, NV, UT, ID, MT, WY, AZ), my mileage was exactly the same as it's been for the life of the truck. Strange.

The idea that you magically get 4mpg better in CO is laughable. Im sorry you dont have enough motorsports or life experience to understand why that is. It's almost as ridiculous as saying one's diesel MPG is better buying fuel from a Shell station vs a Chevron.

Simplest answer for me
Towing less than 10k / towing occasionally - Hemi
Towing more than 10k / towing daily - cummins

Many in depth discussions here about all the variables

I like this approach ^^

There is NO WAY in hell you will ever save money with diesel. Ever. The only reasons to get it are 1) you tow super heavy or 2) you just want it and you're a free American.

So because I get better mileage and I wrote that and the fact that you don’t makes my comment stupid? Additionally when you make such a comment not only I thought it was rude but another did. I’m sorry for you. If you can’t figure out why your rude comments generate a bad connotation you’re obviously lacking. You are what normal folks call a dickhead. It’s not nice going through life creating and thinking negatives.
Regarding your feelings about Colorado being as bad or worse then Ca. Well now, that speaks volumes about your intellect. But you would know, you visited California so of course someone such as yourself would know.
At least with your more intelligent comments you are able to open mouth and remove all doubt that nature didn’t do you any favors. Yes, I’m calling you stupid. And more importantly mean. I’m sorry for you.
So although I only lived in California for 48 years (actually was a stellar place and super beautiful) I also studied the state’s natural history and there’s no place better for that. But if your good with California’s cost of living, crime going off the charts, feces and needles on the streets, homelessness also off the charts and outrageous traffic and the over crowding well then maybe to you Co is as bad or worse. Opinion.
I think the other poster 406linetrash said it perfect. Stop and go traffic, tons of street lights and even more traffic. That’s probably why I get better mileage here.
Do me a favor. Don’t respond, make sure you do stay in your little box somewhere and please don’t move to Co. Life is hard enough. Folks like you don’t make it any better for anybody.

I've def seen awesome mileage going across the texas pan handle where it's flat as hell.

Actually I love California. Just got fed up with the BS. Realized that to retire there would be much more difficult for someone and I didn’t want to beat myself to death for my opportunity to. If the politics and leadership wasn’t so screwed up I’d be there. It’s too liberal for me. Seems like everything was in extreme. They say it’s the most difficult place in the US to do business, it’s the most litigious place in the world and the traffic is a wee bit extreme as well.
But it has great weather (a bit hot where I lived in the San Fernando Valley) it phenomenally beautiful and has more biodiversity then anywhere on earth. Although it has 40 million people there are a lot of good folks there.
Where do you live? When you get your trailer your gonna be so happy! Especially there. I studied the natural history of California for 27 years. Great place to get out and play.

You da man! I agree with you 110%! I think when/if they screw up Colorado I’ll do either Idaho or Utah. Pretty soon you won’t be allowed to buy a Cummins in Kalif****dupfornia. Seriously they’re trying to make everything electric but they don’t have the infrastructure to do so.
I love my diesel. I didn’t get it for mileage. I actually liked the gas truck I drove but I’m a diesel drive’n dude. Love it!

Cummins for towing heavy for high mileage. Hemi for payload and short tows with lighter weights. 6.4 hemis are eating cams still fyi.

Gents, its a well known fact that OH offers the best MPG in the country :).
My parents were from Ohio. Never been. So Rid, you saying to go there for mileage. Don’t speak loudly or all the prius drivers will flock to your lovely state. You wouldn’t want that! Trust me. I’m from Kalif****dupfornia and I escaped them. Now I have a bunch of Subaru drivers to contend with. Not quite as bad but being stuck behind one is not fun!

S**t. I can’t believe how out of proportion my comment saying I get better mph here then Kalifornia is being taken. Guys, it’s true for me. BFD! Take a chill pill. Go live in Los Angeles with a full size truck. Maybe you’ll find some logic to my statement. Maybe you won’t but does it matter. You don’t buy a truck for mileage.

I am lucky, I live in western Montana I where a bandana my spurs are of silver my power wagon is gray and gets better mpg than you on any given day.......ok I know don't quit my day job. But really folks something must be wrong with my truck because running 35" toyos I get good mpg. My speedometer and tripometer are spot on and calibrated via procal snap. I consistently get 16-17mpg.

Sorry you don't have the life or motorsports experience to understand the basics of fuel mileage and basic reading comprehension. I get everyone's the smartest one on the internet. I have a feeling that's how you approach day to day life as well. Big boomer energy. Have a good one.
