I can see that. I been on the road late at night with the idiot light on praying to find a gas station. This is a good read on DEF see link.

DEF is DEF them saying it “out performs all other brands” is comical as far as im concerned cheaper is better as it does nothing for performance or vehicle longevity all it does is keeps the hippies happy

What I got out of it was, use the cheapest brand you can find that meets EPA standard IOS 22241. If it’s not ISO 22241 someone just pissed in a bottle.

DEF fluids all must meet an international standard and standards from the EPA that measure the purity of this fluid. Only purchase a DEF that meets the ISO 22241 standard. Sometimes, inexpensive bottles of fluid may claim to be DEF-compatible. However, if they don't also meet the ISO 22241 standard, they are not DEF.

I got out of work this AM and grabbed some 10/40 at Walmart for the annual lawnmower motor oil change. Anyway here’s the def shortage y’all have been hearing about! I grabbed a jug for the heck of it I have about half a tank in the truck but none on hand. The truck pretty much sits on a tender this time of year as camping season is over in the northeast. Mfg date of 12/8/21 can’t beat that for freshness....

That's the most DEF I've seen at a Walmart in resent months. :D

I usually keep 2 boxes on hand, so that I can rotate and never get old DEF.

Home Depot has had plenty of Peak DEF on hand when I needed a lot of DEF for recent trips to Kentucky and back from Vegas. For long trips I keep several on hand. Its usually $25-$30 for a 2.5 gal box on the road. As far as pumping DEF from a truck stop at the pumps. I personally don't like that DEF, if I had to do that, than so be it, but its not my choice.

I went to 3 walmarts before I found some. Its just the implication that there will be a shortage and people begin to hoard. Australia found an emergency supply since China stopped exporting DEF to them but they said they only procured a 5 week supply.

Even a article yesterday that DEF sensors are in short supply and if you have one needing to be replaced there may be a wait. I am glad I have a daily driver that runs on cheap gas. If my diesel has to sit off and on its okay.

Same price at my local W/M... 7.88 is great. Only cheaper option is at the pump.

I just call the parts store and get it delivered to the shop at 14$ a jug anywhere else its 24$ And no delivery lol

So let's just say for poops and laughs, that there is a severe shortage of DEF availability. What would you do? I here water works just as well. What would you put in the water to keep it from freezing? Just curious what could be used to replace it.
