Price negotiated from MSRP

Heard of them before. I won’t buy vehicles in KY because they aren’t a Reciprocity state with SC. I put a deposit for a truck there in the summer before I placed an order with MD and had to back out when I found out about it.
SC sales tax caps at $500 vs KY tax which was 6 or 7% of the whole price.

I have purchased several vehicles out of state. I always end up paying the tax where I register it, not purchase it. Are you saying KY does not do it this way?

When I purchased vehicles from GA and SC, they gave me 30-day tags and did not charge any tax. I paid the tax when I returned to PA and registered the vehicle. I purchased a car in VA and they did everything with PA on my behalf and charged me PA tax when I signed the papers. The plates just showed up in the mail one day.

It's hard to understand what KY is doing. How are they charging you KY tax if you do not live or register in KY? I'm not trying to be argumentative; I just want to understand and learn.

The way they explained it to me is if I pay cash for the vehicle, I can take it to SC and pay SC sales tax and register it. If I apply for a load in KY they have to charge me KY sales tax. I thought it was weird and didn’t sound right. I didn’t want to fight it or argue. I backed out of the purchase.
Some people said I could have paid the KY tax and then get reimbursed in SC if I overpaid but I know how it is dealing with the government so I didn’t want that headache.
I even talked to their accountant and she said the same thing “KY is not a reciprocal state of SC”.

Is price protection a deal breaker?
Price protection protects the dealer from increases, which should also protect you.

However, it shouldn’t matter if you have a good dealer. I didn’t have price protection on my POC, my MSRP increased by $1700 but my dealer didn’t pass that on to me.

I was told straight up no protection from one dealer and it will be passed onto me. Anyone know how much the msrp has risen in the last 6 months? 2k? I dont forsee it going down next year. So the extra 1% off invoice is a loss.

Depends on the options you have, but my mostly loaded Laramie 3500 Hemi went up $1700 from June to October.

Yeah. Everything but drw, air and safety package on a laramie.
I took the gamble. They told me the same thing.
The close proximity and ability to trade to reduce sales tax still made it make sense for me.

I also ordered from Ashlie after getting quotes from the other usual high volume dealers. Luckily for me, they are right down the street so that saves me the 1400 mile ride back from LA. There is a post in one of the other threads about my experience.
The only thing I would add to this is that they made a VERY good offer my current 2012 1500 as a trade. Beat all the online guys - carvana, webuyanycar, etc - by several thousand. They will take my current truck now and apply to the new truck to offset PA sales tax when it arrives.
Ordered my Power Wagon with Ashlie at Chapman today. Unreal easy and 5% under invoice +$394 & taxes. (MSRP was 67,775, got it for 60,063).
Thanks for posting about them. Saved me a drive from PGH to St Charles.

That's my problem with them, no price protection.

Not sure if you have orderd but I just got 11% off MSRP on my 3500 SRW Limited from Dolan Ram Fiat in Reno NV. It was within $1000 of the quote I got from Mark Dodge and the difference was worth not having to fly to LA and drive 2200 miles back home for me.
Do you have a contact for who you worked with at Dolan?

Trying to make up my mind between a RAM and Chevrolet 3500 for my business. I've submitted and received some really great quotes on the 3500 RAM trucks from dealers that members have recommended on this site. I haven't been able to find any Chevrolet dealers that are doing the same. Does anyone know any of any Chevrolet dealers that are discounting customer ordered trucks?

I don’t know how much they’re discounting, but Laura Buick/GMC in Collinsville, IL was offering decent discounts on in-stock trucks when I was looking a few months back. I would imagine ordered trucks would have similar or better discounts.

Probably not on the same level as Mark Dodge.

Thanks for the reply but I checked with them last week and they told me around a $1,000 discount on an ordered truck. The RAM list for about $3,000 more on the truck I want but the Mark Dodge price is making me lean towards a RAM. The biggest thing holding me back is that BSM is not currently available on the Tradesman and Bighorn trims and that's an option that I really want.

There’s a thread dedicated to adding it. Have you read up on that one?

Yup, my order didn't get in today because they had the system down for pricing updates. I shoulda had it in Saturday. There goes your 1% from ashlie. TRXs went up 2300.
Ram website is actually showing a lower base MSRP for Power Wagon than when I ordered on Saturday? Interesting but honestly I know it will change and that's fine. Happy with my deal.
