The everything but - Post and discuss your TRUCK order here thread

Guys if you have the Diesel. Be sure to pick up a jug of DEF. Had no ideal there was run on it. But mine was getting close to 1/4th tank. Took a while to find any in stock. Read there's a shortage on it, even in other country's.
Every time I buy something, this happens.. My first Diesel 2004 cheap fuel for a couple of months. That was when Diesel was always cheaper then Gas. 3 months later it was $0.85 higher then gas. Now buy one that takes DEF, you got it going to be a shortage and prices are going to shoot through the roof.
Sad part we can't just stock up on this mess. As it can go bad, then cost $$$$ to fix the outcome of using bad DEF.

Also oil, buddy of mine owns a Diesel shop for OTR trucks. He's having issues ordering skids of oil. So when the shops find it tough to get diesel oil. You know were in for it also.

IF YOU DON'T KNOW, DO NOT OVER FILL THE DEF TANK!! THERE'S LOTS OF OWNERS FINDING IT WILL THROW IT INTO LIMP MODE.
Just get DEF at the pumps. It is half the price and always fresh. There is a truck stop somewhere near you.

After reading the post about DEF fluid I just took it with a grain of salt (no pun intended), then while driving today I heard a business report on stocks and it was mentioned. It is apparently quite real, Russia and China, the latter being the major exporter, are cranking back and halting the export of the product due to it being a major fertilizer. Stocking up with a short shelf life is futile, except for the next few months due to the fact that some bought today are already close to expiration. Always check the date on it when you purchase. The good news is there is no shortage of DEF Leppard…..

Amazon is 4 for $98, local auto stores are $18 a container, 2.5 Gallon.

It's $3.50 a gallon at the pump and will have it because semi trucks need it.

How much is it at the pumps right now? I was just checking online and the cheapest I found is $7.90 a gal!
I dunno the latest. I didn't even know there was a shortage or price gouging going on until reading about it here this morning. I use to pay $1.75/gallon at the pump. Like everything else, it started climbing. I think it was like $2.75 a couple weekends ago.

You may not tow heavy a lot. I get 20k out of brakes even with the jake brake.
I have no idea how anyone could go through brakes that fast. You know, you only need to use the left pedal when slowing down and you should let off the right pedal when applying the left pedal. My trucks were licensed for 36,000lbs when I towed for a living. My gooseneck weighed 8,700 empty. As previously stated, I think I was at like 230k before my brakes needed to be done. I'm at 167,000 on my 2018 and they've never been done. It's towed in 47 states and been to Alaska and back pulling a 27k rated gooseneck.

Where did you come from my friend? I feel like I’m getting sniped at from the deep grass. A Jake brake uses compressed gas, the Ram Cummins uses exhaust, totally different.
Lets not get technical. We all know it is an exhaust brake. I tow a lot and go through front brakes at 20k. I don't feel that I have messed with you in any way. I am fully aware that you are a great guy on here. Adding my opinion and own experience.

Ram through the pads and to the metal at 27k towing every day. Put pads on at 20k now. 230k? Sure

27k? Sure. Maybe you should get a trailer that has brakes too. Sounds like you should be replacing the brakes at every oil change so you don't go metal to metal

Maybe read through your operators manual about proper towing techniques and procedures. These trucks have a tow mode and they also come with this thing called a brake controller. It makes the trailer brakes work. You do know trailers have brakes too, right?
Facts, but you guys really have to stop.

If for no other reason cause im laughing so hard i almost pissed myself and the others sitting in the room are looking at me crazy.

I apologize if I insulted you. I have multiple trailers with brakes and do a lot of stop and go. I understand how to set my brakes. I have never seen anyone with or without a trailer go 200K without brake pads on anything.

I wave the white flag and apologize as well. My stupid assumption was that you have a 3500 HO with Aisan and max tow package like my trucks but of course, I've got no idea what your tow rig is or what kind of trailers you pull or what kind of brakes they have.

Yes! Two completely different braking systems. Big Rigs (Semi) have both. The Jake Brake or Johnson Bar (usually a lever located near the steering column) can be used to set the trailer brakes independent of the Tractor Brakes, but isn't recommended because of the potential for jack knifing. Remember! A sliding wheel will always lead the vehicle. This is the reason for front wheel drive vehicles. The Jake Brake is used to set the trailer brakes to keep the trailer from moving backwards during the coupling of the fifth wheel to the King Pin. The Exhaust Brake uses the exhaust gases from the engine to slow the vehicle. The 2500/3500 HD trucks do not have air brakes, therefore a Jake Brake would be impossible on these trucks. 2500/3500 uses electrical brakes in place of air (Compressed Gas) to couple the units.

And then there are retarders as well.
The Johnson bar can also be used to straighten out the truck if you go into a jack knife by locking up the trailer brakes, but I have a feeling you are well aware of that too. You must be a fellow old school trucker.

Was a CDL instructor for years under the Smith System way before the government mandated the CDL requirement. Started driving Semi's back in 1975.....

Truck stop at the pump
Love's truck stop Saturday was out also. Have friends that still own a few hundred trucks. One owns around 350 Peterbilts. He was the one that told me about DEF being tough to find. At that time, he had 39 trucks sitting because of being out of DEF.
