How does one disable the Uconnect Access/RAM Connect free-trial subscriptions from ever being activated on a new truck?

I understand there is a few-month free subscription to Uconnect Access/RAM Connect (are they the same?) that begins when one picks up a new truck; then it turns into a paid subscription if the owner wants.

My 2500 Big Horn order includes the 8.4 Uconnect without NAV and I don't want any of the free-trial stuff active at all (SiriusXM, Uconnect Access, RAM Connect, etc) when I get the truck in Feb 2022 sometime. Call me an old geezer and a curmudgeon, but even though my entire wonderful career was in IT as a network engineer, and I lived in the world of high-tech all those years, I want my new truck to be as limited in technology as possible. I know these rigs are filled with sensors, computers, code, etc so I'm not naive - I just want the techno stuff toned down as much as possible. Ha ha, I'm even going back to the old tried-and-true Road Atlas, paper maps and compass mode of travel both on the road and across country bushwhacking. No more GPS, or as little as possible, for me anymore. Traveling that way is actually much more adventurous!

Am I living a pipe dream hoping when I pick up my truck I can have the free-trial stuff not activated? Do I have to sign some sort of 'opt out' deal for that to happen?

You may be able to talk your dealer into not submitting your info in order to not activate the free trial, but by not activating it, it isn't going to "remove" anything.

SiriusXM would still be there, but you'd simply get the "preview" channel only.

UConnect is all still there behind the scenes, just not active. I never activated mine but still get emails every month or two trying to get me to activate that and WiFi.

Just make sure your dealer isn't doing you any favors by turning it on in the truck.

Don't worry, they can still track you by pings off of cell towers and satellites.

And if you have an Iphone, it never really turns off, so they are always tracking you.

I have a Iphone for work. Battery was fully charged. Turned it off and left it at my desk when I took a 2 week vacation. Came back to work to find the phone dead. had to plug it in and charge it before I could turn it on.

You dont have NAV so you dont get any Uconnect access or Ram connect unless things have changed that only was with the 8.4” with nav and the 12”

Took it home with me, bluetooth shut off, not connected to my home network that is password protected. Turned on my personal computer that is on my home network. Next thing I see is a popup on my computer asking me to finish setting up my new I phone. WTF?

My old iPad will drain the power in a week if I don't turn WiFi off. With WiFi off, it will easily last a month though. If I do a full shutdown it will stay charged for months.

That's just it, everything is shut off except phone and text. That's all I use it for.

i wish my 8.4 non nav had all the fancy uconnect/ram connect stuff where I could start it using my phone etc. My trial siriusXM expired a few months ago and man I miss it. One of these days I will re-up my subscription. I don't mind being spied on. I lead a boring life so I say bring it on lol.

Thats nothing new phones are always listening its just how it is and just because you are not connected to the wifi does not mean the phone is not pinging to the router it just means you can access the internet without logging in

yes it is uncanny you can be talking about something totally obscure and you will get an ad pop up relating to whatever you were talking about. I don't fish and my buddy was over and he told me he needed to make a fishing rod holder for his topper so we were talking about it and next thing you know I was getting all these fishing rod holder ads. Also talking about the KC chiefs and started getting ads for KC game package deals. freaking crazy.

Yea its wild, also your computer keeps a log of reoccurring searches for targeted adds. I once when on a friends computer and went in to the log deleted everything and added some very questionable items so he got all kinds of wild ads it was hilarious seeing him react to the ads he got

One can make it more difficult if one uses a VPN. Plus, I dump my phone in a faraday bag lots of times.

The only thing a VPN is good for is getting a DNS from a different country so you can stream better movies lol the rest is just a fear mongering waste of time they don't care enough about you to steal your info

Getting a VPN ain't about stealing my info and it ain't just good for a DNS from a different country. 98% of location adds and crap stopped instantly on my PC and phone when I fired up the VPN. I drive by a McDonalds now and I don't get a stupid add. Lots of reasons to get a VPN other than streaming that have nothing to do with fear mongering. Not all security is BS.

I test drove a GMC diesel and we “talked” about a deal and I walked away. Next thing I knew I had all these emails from General Motors “welcome to your new GMC” etc etc. they had signed me up for all these things and I hadn’t even bought the truck. It was a complete cluster to get myself off of all those mailing lists
