High Output (AISIN) Tuning

After my three attempts to get dealerships to replace my in-tank lift pump due to fuel contamination causing repeated issues with the ECU putting the truck into "limp mode"... I decided to replace it myself. I also decided that since FCA is failing to keep up, there is no need for me to believe my warranty will offset any future problems. I have installed the EZLynk tuner and run it for a week with all emissions in-tact, then deleted the DPF exhaust and made another 3000 miles roundtrip with even greater results in MPGs, power and driveability. I have the SOTF option and saw a slight MPG gain running the 150hp setting with my truck unloaded, cruising at 70mph to be a negligible 16-17 MPG with full intact or running without the DPF. Where I saw the biggest gain is driveability around town, where my MPGs are typically 12-14, probably due to all the shifting the Aisin does between 1-4th gear, I now see a 17-mpg average. Hauling a 13,000# boat, I switched between 50-150hp while watching EGTs and more... ultimately just leaving it on the 150hp setting, netted me 11.5 MPG where earlier in the week, hauling a similar boat on the same trailer was getting 8.7 MPG, cruising at the same 65mph.

I think the tuning for the HO is in dire need of updating compared to that of the SO engine. I have been searching all the parts individually between the two and reached out to several aftermarket engine parts suppliers to realize the Camshaft is the same for both engines as are the pushrods and rockers. The new 2019+ configuration for the HO carries new part numbers for the Pistons and Rods as well as their crankshaft bearings. The fuel systems also require different part numbers for the #1 cylinder hard fuel line which is different. What is really nice is that the head bolts have been enlarged so the use of the ARP studs is not needed for power levels exceeding what the <2019 trucks needed to upgrade from 12mm to 14mm bolts or studs when running >50psi of boost. I have not seen many here deleting their HO trucks... so stay tuned, I am having great results with mine so far!

Since having truly clean fuel is a key component of not having these issues in the future, I built a "Fuel Polishing System" like what we have in our dual 900hp Volvo diesel boat... but on a smaller scale.

Here's a quick YouTube Short of what I did and it works great! I have now run 15,000 miles trouble-free and zero complaints!

Which tunes and pipe are you running?
EZlynk SOTF with the 4" pipe. I wanted a quiet, no drone truck... so I ordered the Upower 7" Outside, 4" x 24" straight through muffler which was larger in overall diameter than the MBRP muffler my kit came with. My truck is as quiet from the inside as it was stock while driving but the added tone is amazingly smooth during acceleration. I love it! For someone who spends 10-16 hours per day in the truck... this was a perfect upgrade.

If you want the Tuner and shop, send me a PM

So after all that.................... There is no such thing as an SO cam eh? Well shlt.

Seriously though... do you plan to dyno your HO after the tune/delete? Interested to know what kind of power its making.

Yeah IKR!?!? I even called Colt Cams to order an SO. LOL! J/K

I do not have a shop near me to dyno such but will be reaching out to Banks to get the MonsterRam intake and planning to delete the heater as well. I like the flexibility the stock turbo has and for what I do, all my focus is on improving the MPGs and mods that will be effective as such. Changing the cam is something I have spoken to Colt Cams owner about in great length to see the advantages of the new engine's hydraulic roller lifters and the how it will impact tuning for MPGs & torque. I currently have my torque limitations set at 1600 Lb/Ft which have been very conservative on the EGTs not exceeding 900 degrees and zero smoke while hauling.

I have reached out to my Tuner and will be uploading a completely new set of SOTF tunes as the Valet, Stock, 50hp & 100hp settings are useless on my truck for my needs.

That's good to know about the head studs. I was wondering if those would have to be upgraded but that looks to be not needed anymore. I figured they would have been upgraded for the power levels these trucks push out stock.

Great results on the HO is an understatement. Just the changes in torque management alone was a big plus.

SMH,

Who started the camshaft rumor?

Funny how I edited that... I meant the 2019+ had hydraulic roller cams and no adjustable rockers as the older style which other than pistons and rods were the production differences.

Oh Lord.

You were specifically talking about differences between the SO and HO. Not about the change to the CGI engines.

You can backpaddle all you want, just admit that you gave shocking mis-information without any concern for the facts.

Who CARES? IF you are as smart as you want us to believe, why does this ruffle your feathers so much..?

Misinformation? No, I did not specifically state the Cams were different between the two engines. And it doesn't matter because a mod edited my post... since then I have broken the engine down using the Cummins site for replacement parts and have a far greater understanding. I'm actually working on my engine to find out what works, not just boosting my post numbers with drivel and zero content to add constructively to this site. Please show links to where you've invested your money on new upgrades, not the same things everyone else has, to give actual results.

No wonder Notre Dame has no conference affiliation since they cannot get along with anyone.

Your post was not "edited" it was annotated by bolding the incorrect info.

I guess you didn't see the irony.

I am very excited to also hear more about your experience after you took off the triangle choke that was on the Cummins. I look forward to comparing your results with mine being as I have an ''un-corked'' SO Cummins. I hope more people see this and get educated about the fact that the warranty that everyone so desperately clings onto is mostly to fix the parts we took off. In fact, the warranty will still be active and in tact for the things unrelated like a camera going out or a speaker, Uconnect or the like.. or even a leaky window. Mind you, you can make an argument for both sides but this is not what my post is about. Just commending you on taking the leap and enjoying the truck the way it should be. I wish you many miles of reliability, smiles and good memories. Side note, I would recommend going with the Banks' 4'' intake horn from the 2013-18 trucks and getting a new injector that will allow it to fit our trucks from Sheid Diesel. You can compare on the Banks website but as you will see.. the 4'' intake horn alone without even a grid heater delete will net you more CFM than the new generation horn with the heater deleted. I am awaiting install of mine and am very excited to see the results especially after feeling the seat of the pants difference from the Banks' new CAI. Big shout out to @GPurcell01 for the tip on that.
