Need some help here. I ordered a Leer 100XQ cap for my truck and I asked the guy if there were problems fitting with the third brake light with cargo cam. He said no at the time, but just called me back and says that he’s being told it will interfere and a regular third brake light with no camera would need to be installed.

Can anyone confirm or deny this from personal experience?

I see that the ARE tops are supposed to fit no problem and it surprises me that Leer wouldn’t have resolved this yet.

Thanks!

Sorry, don't have a LEER, but my ARE MX fits just fine with plenty of clearance.... obviously the cargo camera just has a view of the top of the shell.

Yeah, not expecting it to be useful, I just want to make sure it fits.

If the Leer won’t fit the truck as it is then they can keep itch I’ll get an ARE instead. I’m not going to deal with a company that can’t update a part to fit something that hasn’t changed in several years.

I had a Leer 100XQ on my 2014 with the camera. It fit fine but would occasionally hit if the cap slid forward a bit. I just had to loosen the clamps and slide it back. It did scratch the lens slightly over the 2 years I owned it. I'd put some 3m tape or something on the lens and roll with it.

I like the Leer caps better than the ARE caps.

Good to hear. Did it damage the top at all?

No. You could hear it when it would hit. My commute has a 5 mile stretch with a few bridge crossings. Every 9 months or so I would hear it hit so I’d move it back. Took like 10 minutes. Honestly, the clamps loosen every so often and I’d never have known if it hadn’t moved.

I have a Leer 100 XL on my 2019 mega cab. It fits fine. There is a small sliver of camera view into the bed. You can see the fork mount bike rack in my truck bed. 0A8E62E5-FC84-4AB7-BD1B-E50B1F8053C3.jpeg

Appreciate the input guys. I'm gonna let it ride. Worst case I have to pull the cap and swap out the light. If I do that then I'll spend the time and work to figure out how to put the camera inside the cap, because while I can deal with a camera having a view of nothing I can't deal with a camera not being connected at all.

I agree with you, The only other thing I can’t deal with is watching the roof line and the topper meet and the have different angles, does any one know of profiles that I could look at ?

I have not been able to find a forum that discusses my issues so I am going to start a new one...

My leer 100XQ aligned perfectly with my 2014. It looked like it was a factory fit.

Just went through my iPhone clicking the ones that looked like they gave a good representation. Lots of randomness...

From the CHMSL? With my cap already on, I haven't bothered to look or try.
Just thinking it through, you'd have to see how the camera is attached in the CHMSL and is it even removable.
If it is, then you'd have to do look at how much wire you have...I'd guess not enough to cross the gap to the cap.
Find compatible wiring and splice in an extra length.
Finally figure out how to run the wire without having water leak into the cab or the cap.
