What’s everyone’s experience here with ceramic coatings and ppf?

This is my first time spending an absurd amount on a vehicle and I want to keep it looking new as long as I can. I’m afraid I’m going to pick up some rock chips on the 1200 mile trip home from the dealer.
every vehicle i own is coated and ppf. well worth it to keep the paint looking new. my new one will have film on the front bumper, grille and mirrors.

Any of you MD orders that are waiting in the port been in contact with MD? Mines been there since the 20th as well. Wondering if they have a tentative schedule they can share?

I'm like you, spending insane money. Might as well spend some more. I'm getting ceramic, undercoating, Retrax tonneau and centramatic wheel balancers. Since it won't be till Feb if lucky, this list might grow more.

I’d be afraid too. Don’t follow to close. I’ve never had a vehicle I cared about enough to get PPF, until now.
I just got done lifting mine after driving it home 5 miles from the dealer. It’s going to sit in my side yard until next Saturday when I have an appointment to get the whole front end, hood, and rockers covered in PPF.

Great Question!!! I've been doing quite a bit of research in this area and watched way too many videos showing water beading and sheeting on car hoods. I watched videos with $15 bottles of Ceramic Shine from Turtlewax to $60 bottles of Avalon King Armor Shield (Need a minimum of 2 Bottles for a truck this size). Both products seem to have the same protection abilities after being sprayed with 5-6 different chemical agents then washed and rinsed. Even then they both held up to the chemicals and continued to allow the water to bead or sheet. My personal opinion is these products are all hype much like F11 when it first appeared on the market. The so called professional appliers will tell you the paint needs to be corrected prior to the application process. ($600-$1000+) These NEW trucks shouldn't have paint issues. I take great care of my auto and apply a nice coat of polish then wax about every three months and my 18 year old 2004 Avalanche still looks new on the outside. I'm personally going with the $15 Turtle Wax Ceramic Shine product. BTW in the past 50 years I've tried just about everything on the market.......
if that helps.... LOL

Keep in mind Water Beading in many locations is great, but water beading in Arizona is not as it allows the water to sit and dissolve calcium which is left behind after the water has dissipated. (Nasty Water Spots) It's much better if the water sheets off your vehicle and takes dirt and other particles with it.

I couldn’t check any box. That was on their end. That said I made it clear that I wanted the LEDs so if it doesn’t come with it for whatever reason I might just reorder.
Sounds petty I know but after waiting what will be nearly 6 months I refuse to drop $1500 more into headlights + alphaOBD + harnesses that could have been from the factory.
ya except packages have changed and u may not get a lot more options u wanted that are on this truck so its give or take or wait till so called covid shortages are gone.

I contacted Sandi w/MD on the Nov. 21 and she reminded me of the possible 1-3 wk timeframe from Port Allen to MD. I'm guessing it's pretty much out of their hands at this point on schedule until they have it on the lot. Then depending on delivery load, might take some time to prep/inspect all the vehicles.

i disagree. ive seen brand new trucks see a huge benefit from paint correction and polish. you can still see some light swirls and marks even in brand new paint. My SRT10 has been polished and coated, but thru the course of a year of me wiping it, it will have hairline surface swirls. So it gets polished every year.

i have several friends who do it professionally. My 17 Ram is coated and has film as well, and the paint on it looks better than half the new trucks that come in. Granted to pay a professional isnt cheap, and some may not see the value. I also only hand wash my vehicles. Coating has to be maintained. So if youre going to run it thru car washes all the time then paying for a coating isnt worth it. If you want to take the time and effort to only hand wash and maintain the coating,, then prob worth it. Personally for me i like my trucks staying shiny and looking brand new. I have the full foam cannon, etc,. They get hand washed and re polished as needed. I already have an appointment with my guy to get the new truck coated and film added when it comes in. approx 2k worth.

PS- it started sprinkling while driving the viper truck over the weekened, i was able to outrun the rain and got home, but while it was raining i dont have to use wipers and it was spot free dry when i got home. Water rolls off that fast.

We’re at the mercy of the transporters. Everyone has been told the same thing - 5 trucks for all deliveries inside Louisiana. No other info disseminated about how those transporters determine who gets deliveries. Expect to wait 1 to 3 weeks after the train arrives at Port Allen. Could it be that since MD got some trucks just over a week ago that they aren’t on the schedule again for a while while they serve other dealers? *shrug*

I was told it could take 2 to 3 weeks to get to the lot.

I will be putting centramatic wheel balancers on my DRW also. I have had them on my Jeep TJ, Kenworth T600 and a chevy. Will not do without them. On all three, I had vibrations. Add the Centramatics and it was gone. The Kenworth, was as smooth at 40 as it was at 85 MPH. Also tires lasted a lot longer. No odd wear, unless it was from aliment issues.
My 97 Jeep TJ, is smooth now. But before adding these, always a tire out of blanancce. Now more like my wifes SUV. And the TJ has 217,000 miles on it.

What has your dealer said your status is? Presumably it's been shipped and on the way to them.
Well after earlier post there has been an update. The vehicle is now in KZ Status, so it could be on the train or ready to load. Not bad on my dealer as a guess we were looking at this week. So I might get a early present this year.

I wanted the led light group, but I have a big horn and would of had to upgrade to level B from 1. In the end they would have cost me almost $3k.
Level B options didn’t really make a difference to me. Not for that much dough at least.

I will be the first to tell you that I don't know nuttin about nuttin, especially the new type of coatings. However, when I talked to a professional detailer and saw some of his handywork on a couple of vehicles he had there, his price $1600 seems like cheap insurance compared to the cost of my truck. While I will do my best to keep it clean & washed and looking like it just came from the showroom, I personally don't want to wax this big thing several times per year. Just not my cup of tea. For those who enjoy doing this, I cheer you on. When you say you hand wash, I was wondering are you not using a car wash with a hand wand and only hand wash with mitten at home. I'm asking because I don't know if a hand held pressure wand will harm the ceramic coating.

Turtle wax and Griots ceramic spray on wax did pretty good, those and a foam cannon and I'll be good. And a clay bar!

Whether you agree or disagree with my synopsis is your personal opinion just like my personal opinion. I believe the poster asked for opinions therefore I provided my opinion.... Your "PS" statement doesn't make sense to me. You state it started sprinkling while driving the Viper truck over the weekend however, you were able to out run the rain and arrived home. Then you go on to say but while it "was" raining you didn't have to use the wipers and the truck was spot free dry upon arrival. Water rolls off that fast. You couldn't have possibly out ran the rain and still got wet..... LOL
