CP4 recall thread (merged threads) - Y78 Jan 2022 recall campaign - Parts Available May 10 for 2020 trucks only

Interesting how Carfax didn't waste any time notifying me about this recall. I wonder how much they pay my local dealer to track my service there? Originally, I never signed up with Carfax for any programs or services. Only after I took the truck in to get the A/C TSB performed, did Carfax start to reach out to me. Carfax has been on my jock ever since.
 
So 222,410 trucks recalled based upon 6,900 warranty repairs and customer "assistance" claims on the issue. That's 3.1% of trucks with the CP4, assuming that they recalled all of the CP4 trucks, that had an issue so far.

I thought I had read somewhere else that 7-9% of CP4s were failing? Hmmm....

In any case I'm glad Ram is stepping up and finally doing something about it.

According to the NHTSA report (https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2021/RCLRPT-21V880-8784.PDF) they estimate the trucks effected at 4%. Keep in mind, this is the estimated current failure rate after roughly 3 years. It's very likely that the failure rate will increase with time/miles.

What may not be in those figures are the people that had dealers claim "contaminated fuel" which Ford did for many years with this failure. These "customer pay" scenarios may not have even been counted by FCA as they were never correctly identified as a warrantable condition by dealers that had their heads in the sand. There are many ways to hide the numbers that we may never know.

The failure rate can only go up because the population of trucks is not getting any larger. Each failed pump will increase the failure rate. The unanswerable question is whether or not the failure rate increases in a non-linear manner.

I mean assuming that this recall ends up happening in Q1 2021, then I think it's highly unlikely we will ever know (as you pointed out), however we may get "lucky" and FCA may drag their heels and we find out as the recall takes years to accomplish. I guess it depends on what happens with the recall.

I'm currently waiting on bringing my truck in for the A/C recall since they will have my truck for like a week with that I hear. I'd rather drop it off once and have all these issues sorted out together.

I am not so sure they will drag this out with NHTSA breathing down their back. Sometimes it is good to have the guberment involved. The question is, what is a reasonable time to fix to all the trucks.
 
I was having one of my "free" oil changes done at the dealership last Friday. I asked the service manager ( who I used to play baseball with, so I know him well) if he knew when parts would be available. He said he has no idea and that he thought we'd receive a notification when they can proceed with repairs. Doesn't sound like it will be too soon.
