Hello all and thanks for letting me join in. Bought 2019 Ram 4x4 CC with Cummins a little while back. Its got all the towing features (they claim) except for a factory installed trailer brake controller. Went to dealership and was informed as per my VIN that a brake controller is not authorized due to not having a build sheet spec of HXU or something like that. I know there has to be somebody out there in the forum that has better knowledge about this since the stealership just shrugged there shoulders and said "you could trade up to a newer truck with that option." So, can i get some info from a knowledgable person on what to look for so that I can install it myself and then show the stealership that it can be done? Thanks a bunch for any help!!!!!!!

I didnt have one and had the dealer add the sales code and controller. easy peasy. call a different dealer.

I was able to add a factory one to my 1500. It was very easy to install as the wiring is there behind the radio. Just plug it in and enable the sales code (which I did with AlphaOBD)

I don't believe you can add sales codes with alpha on these trucks. install the hardware for sure... that's easy.

You absolutely can enable sales code related features using AlfaOBD

please enligjten me on that process.. is there a link ypu can share or provide cliff notes on where within alpha this capability is?

You can't technically add a "sales code." You can enable the sales code feature with Alfaobd and install (most) of the hardware options.

There's a "DIY" sales code sticky on the forum here for common features.

It technically isn’t called adding the sales code, but when you enable a feature with AlfaOBD, it is making the exact same changes in the BCM as when the dealer adds the sales code. There are two differences when the dealer does it vs AlfaOBD:
1) adding the sales code applies the changes to your VIN’s vehicle configuration on file with dealer connect. When you make the changes with AlfaOBD, and the dealer were to flash the BCM for some reason (rare), the changes you made will revert back to what they were factory, and you would have to change the settings again.
2) adding the sales code adds the feature to your VIN’s accessories list as a “dealer installed option”.
As far as the OP’s dealer saying they couldn’t do it, that could very well be. The dealer can only add sales codes to a particular VIN build that are allowed by stellantis. Otherwise, the option to add is greyed out on their micropod. It’s VIN specific, so one person with a tradesman might be able to do it, but the next might not. Traditionally, though, if the feature is a Mopar kit that is offered (I’m not sure if they offer a kit to add the ITBM for 2019+), then the sales code should be available to add no matter what. I have the same advice as others- just buy the parts, install them, and use AlfaOBD to enable it.

I would call a different dealer and provide your vin# and ask them if they are able to add the sales code, price wise adding the 1 feature will be 1/2 the price as the alfa OBD cost to get setup but its worth having though i made the mistake of having the dealer enable my remote start when it would have been worth getting alfa for

I’m in the same boat. Just purchased a 2022 3500 without a controller. I can install myself. I’m confused though. Do I need to check for a specific wiring? What units should I purchase
