Can you have your heater/AC turn on with remote start?

I know it will turn on the heated wheel and seats when it's at a certain temp outside, but is there any way for it to turn on the HVAC to the setting you had before turning the truck off? I noticed it will only do it after you've opened the driver's door after remoting starting, but not if you just hit the remote start on your fob.

Perhaps via AlfaOBD?

I have mine on Auto, and I'm pretty sure it does exactly that. With the heat, it seems to wait till it's capable of blowing warm air though.

When I use the auto-start in the Summer it will turn on the AC as well as my vented seats.
I think it's a setting in the menu somewhere.

Make sure it's not only turning it on when you open the drivers door. It will turn on the defrost vents, but not the main vents until you open the door.

The setting in the menu is only for the heated steering wheel and heated/vented seats turning on when you remote start and only at a certain ambient temp.

I know this is a weird thing to be concerned with, but it's for a separate project I've been working on (heating a roof top tent).

I keep my HVAC set on auto. When I get in my truck after a remote start it is nice and cool inside. I live in Florida so the heat hasn't been used yet, but I assume that if I let it idle until the engine heats up, the heat would turn on.

I wonder if I'm just not letting it get cold en
How in the hell would I do that? lol

A few ways. Look in the window before you open the drivers door. The screen will be off. Then when you open the door the screen will be on.

You can also test with the window down. Reach in and the only vents blowing will be the defrost vents.

You can also just get in the truck while it’s remote started using one of the passenger doors. Then if you reach over and open the drivers door your HVAC will fully turn on.

I’ve done all the above in cold weather and the heater. Not sure how it works with hot weather and AC.

I’ve already made the ducting running from the rear main vents to my tent. I thought I was good to go, but when I tested it I came across the above problems.

My only other option is to try and make a ducting system that works with the defrost vent for our side mirrors. Not ideal though. Or figure out a way to trigger the drivers door sensor with some sort of switch from the tent. That would be easy, but I can’t seem to find the door sensor. Edit: I manually set the door latch and it looks like the door ajar sensor in inside the door and a part of the door latch.

I'll try to remember to give it a whirl. It's not nearly cold enough at the moment for the auto HVAC to enable though.

Edit: Just realized you're not talking specifically about that. I'll take a peak at this later in the evening, though I do wonder if it must be triggered by those minimum temps.

Remote start the truck while you’re sitting in it
I did that too! I've been testing every possible scenerio. Keep in mind, in my testing, the HVAC only kicks fully on when the drivers door is opened. Not with any of the passenger doors.

I went through all the AlfaOBD settings and couldn't find anything that would turn on full HVAC with remote start.

So I only got to test one scenario, and it was the least likely of what I thought would work.

With automode set to 75, ambient temp of ~50, the heat did not turn on at all with the autostart. Granted I didn't let the truck idle for ~15 minutes or so, and I have noticed that in auto it doesn't start heating right away, so that could be the case here too.

I want to try doing it not in automode, and with external temps <40, so the system fires the seats/etc. But my garage, even though it's not heated, rarely dips that low.

Sadly, I have a feeling that you may be right with HVAC not firing till the door opens, and I wonder if that is intentional so it's not sitting there sucking in it's own exhaust if you're in a garage or something. I just feel like I have noticed the cab being warmed up a few times.

Your AC should run at whatever it was set at before shutting the truck down. Mine fires up with remote start every time.

I used UConnect to remote start mine from the boat the first summer (it's since expired) and it was always cool when we got in it. Same for using the keyfob to remote start, it's running and cool when entered.

I remote started it this past week Elk hunting and the windshield was (mostly) defrosted on the coldest morning (6F) with the HVAC set on Auto and separate temps each side. The rear window defrost also engages.

That said, the diesel has 3 electric cabin heaters so the heat most likely acts much different.

I tested the theory i remote started it with everything off (poverty knobs) at -5*C after 15 mins the truck was nice and toasty inside but no blower on but defrost was still on.

So second day i started it and went to the truck without the key and the blower was on full with the vents on the windshield with defroster on (still knobs in the OFF position) then i went and grabbed the keys and as i approached and got within range of the RF hub the fan shut off and the infotainment started up

My theory is there is an interior temp sensor even on the poverty trims that forces the Heat-A/C on regardless of knob position… i have not had the remote start enabled in the heat so the A/C is an assumption but it should operate in the same fashion

It's already in the 30s (using the truck temp sensor) here and it still only used the defrost vents.

Are you thinking it uses the personalized key fob settings? I haven't tried to set it it up. I do use the profile settings for my seat and pedal positions (the buttons on the drivers door).

No i dont have personalized fob settings im saying it seems to trigger the heat-A/C from a cabin temp sensor

when I remote start my Laramie now that its cold in the mornings, I get in and the blower is on defrost at around fan speed 5-6 and the heated seats and steering wheel are on. Not sure about the defrost / mirrors though. As soon as I push the start button the HVAC goes back to my last setting, but the heated seat and wheel stays on.
