When running on a flat surface in Eco mode and giving it a little bit of gas just before it goes out of Eco mode the truck shutters or feels like it’s lugging. Has anyone else noticed this problem, if it is a problem.

I have the 2500 with 4.10 and yep. This is a common issue.

Long and at depth discussed.

Politics aside because it’s too overdone, the short story is

The eco mode is deactivating cylinders and with the taller gears the truck is lugging to accelerate. Best thing to do is when you drive to just use your “+” or “-“ on steering wheel to lock out into 8th gear. This simply deactivates eco mode and you will love driving the truck.

I have no idea why the deactivation exists. The truck drives wonderful, quite economic for what it is, and these heavy trucks are not under EPA ratings. So again. Without the politics. It’s an annoying design but can be circumvented.

My 2020 6.4 does not do that it is seamless between eco mode and not eco mode. I have read complains so makes me wonder if it even works.

What’s your gearing? It’s supposed to be better on the 3.73

4.10's today I toggled back and forth between D and 7th gear totally flat road cruise set at 45mph no radio on etc. as soon as I would go to D the eco light would come on and stay on until I dropped down to 7th via steering wheel control and I did that back and forth and literally there is 0 difference in sound or the way it feels.

I don't notice any power issue on my 2020 with 4.10s in and out of eco mode either. I do hear it, but don't feel it. Although I have slightly impacted the effective gearing with the bump up to 37s.

Mine seemed to lug a bit when brand new in eco mode but as the engine has broken in (5400 miles now) it seems like the 4 cylinders that are contributing in eco mode are able to maintain speed on a flat grade with light throttle. Definitely makes a different noise but that is to be expected and totally normal. My PW has the 4:10 gears

Well. I suppose this could be a complicated situation where we have to ask “how do YOU define ‘lugging’?”

I will say I drive with eco activated 50%. And it’s what I would say is fine. Flat ground I can maintain speed no issue. But if I want to jump 45-55 I don’t ease on the throttle I make it work. I guess I would say yes it is mostly sound when on flat ground.
