looking into diesels for next truck, my wife will use it daily to take kids to school and around town etc. I am hearing diesels are slow to provide heat is this true? Compared to a gasoline engine? If so how long does it take to get good heat out of the system? They are drive to score is probably 4 miles.

use the block heater to enjoy instant heat during the colder months. these trucks have a supplemental heater to provide cabin heat sooner, as well.

New modern day diesels warm up so much quicker then they used to, They also have remote start. Turn on exhaust brake to speed up the warm up process. High idle is another thing that’ll help.

I am looking at a 22 Tradesman. No remote start and no supplemental heater. Will they have any heat with such a short drive?

When its cold they will use the EB to warm up even if you don't turn it on same with the high idle anytime its below 32* (0*C) my truck will say cabin heating on the evic then idle up and the EB kicks in without having to hit anything

That is new to me. My 12, you have to hit the EB button to get it to come on. Can’t wait for my 22.

This. My 2021 is warm in just a few minutes. WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY faster than my 99 cummins. My 99 seems to take 15+ minutes just to get some comfortable warmth out of the vents.

my '92 12v took absolutely forever to warm. my 3rd gen warmed up almost as fast as my 4.75 gen.

If you live in a really cold climate and are worried about it look into an Espar hydronic heater, you'll never plug in again and will have instant heat, I use mine year round as well so I don't wait at all for the oil to get to temp before driving off.

Mine has been great in cold weather. I have remote start so that helps but it's pumping warm air faster than my Jeep JK does. Three minutes on remote St and windshield is thawed after it sitting for a 12hr night shift.
