How do i turn the 1984 setting off?

Right on Jim!

...it just shows you're probably a good person who hasnt experienced or understood the type of utility and power that information grants.
this.. oh boi... this for sure. I guess I'm a "good" person, and getting tangled up in what you're referring to would be worrisome to say the least...

to the wider discussion...

overall, i have a dual opinion on this. I don't give a crap who knows what about me BUT... that's MY info. in theory, I should be getting paid for it, or an easy opt out. 2nd, there's also nefarious folks that aren't tied to big data, that can rake you over with identity theft and the like...

I do love love love the 1st world easiness that comes with data tracking, but like was mentioned, that happened over time and not enough peeps pushed back early enough, or a *consumer data pac* wasn't organized in time, to keep data miners in check.

Well said and I tend to agree with you for the most part. My concern is the lack of choice to who can and will track me without my consent. Even the knowledge that consent was presumed based on the choices of the majority but not the individual is disturbing.

I guess I gotta sell my truck now and get a buick lesabre if I want to be free :'(

this is the mass concern, and rightfully so. the collective population should have total control. that's a pipe dream if there ever was one, but whatcha gonna do.

I just hide among the masses and let them think they know everything about me. They do know more than they should though.

So… can we unplug the truck or not? I don’t have Guardian (did on my 2019) but my ‘22 comes with RAM Connected Services. I can see my fuel, range, mileage to the single-digit, location, drive speed… it’s NUTS! How do I opt out and keep Stellantis from tracking this stuff?

I think this conversation is a bit funny from the "who cares what they know about me crowd". A lot of these responses indicate thinking of things "as they are" and not "as they could be", meaning just because you aren't worried right now, doesn't mean you should sign a blank check on not having any privacy.

I work for a very well known tech firm, and love their products, services, etc. I also understand that these large companies have the imperative of collecting more and more of our data and using it in ways we would be less and less comfortable with.

People should read up on the Snowden leaks, they should understand the massive amount of data that our government sucks in with the help of internet providers, phone providers, and companies like google, facebook, twitter, et al.

Sadly, until someone sues one of these automakers they will likely claim that by using the vehicle you have signed into being tracked, having your data used, etc. Even if you won a lawsuit I'd have strong suspicions if "turning it off" actually turned it off.

Anyway, I love the modern conveniences we have, and I'd gladly pay for a lot of them if that was the model used, but to just sign all privacy away because "thats how things work" is not a great model for protecting liberties from future attack. Much like I'd like to see "right to repair" passed, I'd like to see a similar option for data gather and tracking. Currently, the only way to win is not to play.
