2019 Truck cap/topper/camper shell thread

Here it is. ARE Z Series cap. 2021 Ram 2500.

Picked up a used Lakeland topper for $300. Needed a new driver-side flip out window and being the cheap guy that I am, I replaced it with a $30 piece of dark tinted Lexan. If you didn't know, you would never notice. The down side is, the window doesn't flip out anymore. Just need to wire up the third brake light and interior lights.Snapchat-632422634.jpg1106211034.jpg
 
What does everyone's cap/topper have for a tailgate seal? By this I mean is there an additional rubber seal on the door in the area of the molded tailgate cover? We had some rain last week and I got a lot of water coming in the bad from the tailgate area and I noticed a t-channel where a seal could be installed, but don't have any reference if one is supposed to be there or not, or what it would look like.

my hatch on my topper has a rubber seal around it.
The bottom of the hatch has a molded cap that fits over the top of the tailgate.
If water gets in, on mine, it probably came in the bottom corners of the hatch and/or between the tail lights and tailgate.

This is a pic of the area I am talking about. You can see the t-channel. I thought I had seen an additional sweep seal on some others in this area.

I have the tailgate "sealed", and it seemed like a lot of water to have come from the small corner opening at the hatch/tailgate.

I used RTV to seal the gap... otherwise the water rolls under the gap between the plastic and the frame when I open the door.

Can someone with a midrise cap do me a favor? I'm curious what the interior height is, and the opening height is. If you could throw a tape measure up from the "upper" bars across the floor of the bed to the lowest part of the roof in the cap, and do roughly the same with the opening, and just let me know what model cap you have so I can have a rough idea.

I'm trying to see how much height I'm gonna have inside if I put a cap back on, and if I can do a decked/truck vault/DIY and also comfortably sleep inside and if I can put a dog kennel in the back. Appreciate any help here.

I have an ARE MX and a bedrug so the measurements include that thickness.

Bedrug is about 5/8" thick.
Door opening is 40.5"
Interior down the center is 44.5"
 
Thank you so much @Gondul ! I realized after you posted that while I said mid rise I meant that as can height, not extra tall. I'm realizing I need to update that. Thank you for posting though!
 
For any cap in general installed on one of these Rams, how does the installer wire them (for brake light, overhead light, or even power locks)? Do they have to cut into existing wiring or do they use some sort of connector?

you should have blunt wires for that under your spare. I did.
