2022 Ram HD Builds and orders - Post and discuss your TRUCK order here! ** NEW USERS READ POST #1 **

Possibly has to do with the weight of the components added to the truck when you select the HO over the SO. I’m speculating but the weight of the components would be deducted from the gross vehicle weight rating ?

The HO engine is the same with a different tune than the SO. The Aisin transmission weighs more than the 6 speed which reduces payload.

So I just noticed that my build sheet is listing a "supplemental heater". Is that like an electric PTAC heater located somewhere in the HVAC system? I'm pretty sure my 2018 didn't have that, but it would be nice since the diesel trucks take forever to heat up when it's really cold out.

So I'm pretty sure it's an electronic heater that provides heat until your coolant gets up to temp.

Woohoo!!

After I got the same reply I emailed Sandi to get an updated POC showing D1 and estimated ship date, which she said was build date but I’m hoping it’s really ship date. We shall see. Two more weeks.
Sandi told me some time ago that my estimated ship date was 11/9 and also mentioned that I should translate it as a build date. I think she was right as I did not get my Build Sheet yet.

Right. I knew the engine weighed the same and the transmission was heavier. Wasn’t sure if there was any other components that were different. I thought I saw a video sometime ago when this generation of trucks was released that other components in the suspension were changed to withstand the torque of the HO engine

Not trying to derail your question but I think there are more differences besides a tune between the SO and HO. The compression ratios are different which leads me to believe the pistons might be different. There are probably more differences as well..... maybe someone can chime in and list them. However, in the end the SO and HO do weigh about the same.

Differences listed here.

That's by ship date too and I have no build sheet either.

Why is the payload less but the towing is more on the HO? That is one thing I have never understood.
The vehicle payload is the difference of x - All the stuff on it. The HO engine is heavier than the SO so that comes off the payload. Suspension frame axles determine payload, engine has nothing to do with it other than adding weight.

And the HO gets the 12 in diff vs the 11.5 for the SO except DrW

Since my truck is getting ready to ship, I guess I should venture out of this thread and see what else is happening on this forum, LOL. :D

Received another update this morning from Sandi at Mark Dodge - my MC is scheduled to arrive at Port Allen, LA tonight with an ETA of 9:04 p.m. It departed on 10/25 and the original estimated arrival date/time at Port Allen was 11/4 at 9:47 a.m. Based on a previous post, I think @BrentD86 's truck may be on this same train.
Could be the same train, not the same car though.

I'm pretty sure only the 3500 HO SRW or DRW get the 12." rear axle. The 3500 SO DRW gets the 11.50....I believe you must have an Aisin to get the 12" rear axle. There are a couple of 3500 DRW SO on the tracker and they have the 11.50" rear axle.
