Isn’t ford still running the CP4? Assume they’ll be next.
 
With the NHTSA getting involved, I wonder if ram is actually going to issue a voluntary recall or TSB since they've been promising something for a while anyway. I figure that would be a much better look than waiting for the NHTSA to swing the big D*ck and force them to issue a major safety recall.

Summary: The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) has received 22 complaints and 2 field reports alleging incidents of stall/loss of motive power as a result of high pressure fuel pump failures in certain model year (MY) 2019-2020 RAM 2500, 3500, 4500 and 5500 heavy duty trucks equipped with 6.7L Cummins turbodiesel engines. An ODI review of the complaints found that most stall/loss of motive power incident allegations occurred at speeds above 25 MPH and resulted in permanent disablement of the vehicle. In November 2019, FCA issued Warranty Bulletin D-19-02 (subsequently revised six times) to announce to its dealers a "Fast Feedback Program" wherein they were notified of a campaign to 'collect, monitor and correct quality issues' on certain MY 2018-2020 Ram trucks equipped with the 6.7L Cummins engine. As a result of this campaign high pressure fuel pumps have been collected and inspected by the manufacturer and pump manufacturer. ODI is opening this investigation to further assess the scope, frequency, root cause, and potential safety-related consequences of the alleged defect leading to stall/loss of motive power on 2019-2020MY RAM heavy duty trucks. I'm guessing that there is a typo where they say the Fast Feedback Program applies to model year 2018 trucks? Don't the 2018's use the CP3 yet?:confused:

HAVEN'T EVEN HAD MY FIRST OIL CHANGE YET. DEALERSHIP SAID THEY FOUND RED DYE DIESEL IN THE SYSTEM SO FCA DOES NOT WANT TO COVER THE CHARGES. I HAVE DONE RESEARCH ON THIS AND HAVE FOUND NOTHING HARMFUL ABOUT RED DIESEL. SO UNLESS THEY CHANGE THEIR MIND IT LOOKS LIKE A LAWYER IS NEXT.

THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL ON THESE 2019 FIRST MODEL TRUCKS WITH THE KNOWN DEFECTIVE AND DANGEROUS CP4 INJECTION PUMP.

IF IT'S SO COMMON WHY NOT FIX THE ISSUE MY WHOLE FAMILY WAS OUT IN DANGER THAT NIGHT AND ALSO WAS EXPENSIVE. THE ISSUE IS FIX FOR NOW BUT IS A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE IT HAPPENS AGAIN

ALTHOUGH WE MISSED THE POLE AND OTHER VEHICLES, IT WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO AVOID DUE TO LOSS OF POWER STEERING AND BRAKING. HAD OUR SPEED BEEN SLIGHTLY HIGHER, A COLLISION WOULD HAVE BEEN UNAVOIDABLE. AFTER HAVING OUR TRUCK INSPECTED BY THE DEALERSHIP, IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE CAUSE OF THE ENGINE BREAKDOWN WAS THE BOSCH CP4.2 INJECTION PUMP CATASTROPHICALLY FAILING (OR "GRENADE-ING" OR "IMPLODING" AS THE DEALERSHIP PUT IT) RESULTING IN THE COMPLETE DESTRUCTION OF THE ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM, STOPPING ALL FUEL FLOW TO THE ENGINE. AFTER THIS HAPPENED TO US, WE DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT THE BOSCH CP4.2 INJECTION PUMP HAS BEEN DETERMINED TO BE INCOMPATIBLE WITH DIESEL FUEL FOUND IN THE USA DUE TO LACK OF LUBRICITY, AND HAS OTHER FUNDAMENTAL DESIGN DEFECTS THAT TOGETHER MAKE CATASTROPHIC FAILURE ALMOST INEVITABLE IN VEHICLES DRIVEN IN THE USA. MOST PREVIOUS RAM 3500'S USED A RELIABLE BOSCH CP3 INJECTION PUMP, BUT STARTING IN 2019 MODEL YEARS SWITCHED TO THE LESS EXPENSIVE CP4.2 EVEN THOUGH THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN KNOWN TO RAM AND CUMMINS DUE TO THE COUNTLESS INCIDENTS OF CATASTROPHIC FAILURE IN OTHER VEHICLES USING THE SAME PUMP FOR MANY YEARS. HAD WE KNOWN THIS PRIOR TO PURCHASING OUR TRUCK, WE WOULD NOT HAVE PURCHASED IT. 1143427625002020NVI was driving on the freeway when the truck suddenly began surging the throttle. I began to make my way to the shoulder. By the time I was in the shoulder the truck lost all power. I came to a stop and the engine began shuddering and bogging down before I was able to safely shut it off. Fortunately traffic was light and I didn’t have a trailer, this could have been very dangerous had I needed to accelerate and lost all power to the truck. Dealer diagnosed with a failed CP4 injection pump, a know issue for this model year.
 
So did @RamCares really disappear on this topic? Last I heard, Ram was going to have some resolution for us poor redheaded CP4.2 owners.

Well yeah......but if they updated at least monthly it would APPEAR that they actually care. :) I fully expect no communications from them after the NHTSA report made its way onto center stage. No point in fighting too many battles on too many fronts.....just ask Hitler.

I would expect their legal department shut down any discussion of it as it's now an ongoing investigation and there is no sense in risking any potential lawsuits or anything else while one is ongoing.

Ram has issued a new Recall (Y78), for 2019-2020 heavy duty trucks. The remedy is a new High Pressure Fuel Pump along with a Powertrain Control Module software update. Once the necessary parts are available, we'll sure to follow up with additional information.

Took my truck in yesterday for a key fob replacement and they did the PCM software update. Fuel pump issue is only for diesels.
