2021 Stop Sale on certain diesels incoming (intake air heater relay). - Recall Y76 REFRESHED OCT 2021

At least then we will have a photo of one that was not part of the first list but now is included.

That is what my truck is. Yesterday it was not listed, today it is listed. So i went outside to see what relay i have and it appears i have the updated relay.

My truck was built May 3rd, 2021.

The fix is for trucks with a relay that has exposed terminals on the back side... look at Jimmy07's post above.

Id rather not let those bafoons at the dealer touch my truck.

That’s what I was thinking.

I just noticed your relay has a different part number than mine.. Mine is 169AB, yours 169AA.

Go pop that sucker out and let us know what the back of yours looks like!

I understand your last sentence. Our dealer has hit or miss reviews.

But I still don't understand why Ram would include a truck like yours in the recall if your relay is OK. I am wondering if they updated the relays last spring to one like yours, but now they have found that did not fix the issue? Otherwise why would they include your truck in the recall? I still have not looked at mine but I will later today.

Your logic makes sense but my gut tells me that there was a batch of trucks built that FCA has no idea which relay was installed. Hence the reason they ALL are being recalled.

I can tell you Scooter29's truck and mine were built within weeks (maybe days) of each other. We were both tracking our orders at the same time waiting for dealer delivery. We actually ordered from the same dealer.

But looking above, the relay in his truck has a different part number than mine.

Just check mine. Built on February 28, 2021. My part number ends in 169 AA. Looks like their original fix in the factory was to put a piece of clear yellow tape over the terminals. Not hard to change. Hopefully the dealer will just give me the part and I will install it myself. I might as well start a file folder to save the recall notices, the way it is going. 7 months old and two recalls.

On the phone with my local service department and they confirmed that there is a new part number. However, he then contacted his parts department, and the parts manager said no parts would be available until February 2022.

Both the service department and parts manager said that this recall is so new, that they just received info on it today. It may take some time to get the true status of the repair and what it will include.

Looks like I got the first revision of the relay fix. And gimmie11s is the final version. I still feel better that it’s not the original with the metal exposed.

Who knows. They may have identified ALL fixes/revisions as bad. Question is- what does a 2019-2020 relay look like…

Traditional relay solenoid.

Ok. So I'm the guy that uses a torque wrench on my drain plug, and this may be a bit overboard also.

I disconnected the relay from the battery, stuck the cable end into a finger of a thick rubber glove, and taped it up. Zip tied the taped up end to the fender strut, and called it isolated. This should take care of any fire danger until next year when the new parts are available. Any issues with doing this? Jimmy07 said I shouldn't throw any codes, so I'm thinking I should be good.

I'll be damned look at that. I wonder what CC meant to the assemblers.

Ya gotta love this forum, my dealer and FCA must not , because I know more and sooner about what is going on with my truck well before they inform me.
Thanks for the heads up on this recall , didn.t know I was affected

i cant find this relay solenoid, where is it? I took the flash light today looking for it...I was looking mostly on the passanger side of the engine

Ah- duh. I do remember now from discussions earlier this year it’s the old style. They couldn’t just leave it alone…
I wonder if they will attempt and fail a 3rd solid state setup or just convert the old ones to the tried and true solenoid
