Hello, I just signed up recently and have had a lot of reading to do.

I came across this thread and it concerned me because of parking the truck in a attached garage with the fire potential.

My truck was built 06-2021 2500 Tradesman, love the truck.

The question I have is does anyone know what the relay looks like that needs the update?

I checked online and on the app and my truck does not have a notice for repair.

Since my truck does not have a notice I thought I would remove it and take a picture of the relay, front and rear.

The relay is potted with a white silicone material on the backside as the photo shows, Im just curious what a relay looks like that needs updated.

It looks just like the one you posted except for no silicone. They add it at the dealer from a caulk squeeze tube for the recall fix.

Thanks for the reply, I gathered from previous post's that a shmear of silicone is the fix, leads me to believe then the relay is a printed circuit board open to atmosphere, subject to car wash water, rain and brine.
Just wanted to help someone with a visual of a correct relay.

The OP’s relay was manufactured correctly.

I plan on disconnecting mine, just to be safe. I ordered my truck February 24th, 2021, and took delivery on May 12th. My VIN was never listed on the original recall/stop sale, and it is not listed on this one either. That said, starting a couple weeks ago, each time I start the truck, I smell something burning. When checking under the hood, there is no smell, only inside the cab. It goes away after maybe 1 minute or so. I will look at the relay later tonight to see if anything looks hot or burned, and then disconnect it until this recall has had some time to be fully explained.

I live in the Pacific NW, so temperatures are pretty mild. Truck is always garaged so it never gets cold enough to run the grid heaters (I think). Does anyone know if disconnecting the relay will trigger any codes?

I have noticed that it does not need to be very cold for my truck to make me wait for the preheat. I would say most anything under 45 or 50 degrees and it runs. Not sure if it is really needed at those temps, but it goes on anyway. Mine was built just before yours and it was also not listed on the original and so far still says no recalls. Not sure why it is some and not others or why if our trucks are OK, why some trucks built long after ours impacted. Maybe there will be some more definite information coming out soon.

Unless you're remote starting it, you can press the start button twice to skip the preheat.

There’s not necessarily any certain temp, it’s just preference. I’ve experienced it starting just fine going straight to run at 0f. Note-even if you skip the preheat, the grid heater continues to cycle on and off while the engine is running until the intake air is above a certain temp.

Definitely going to disconnect the relays this weekend!

At over what temp do you think it is OK to do that?

When it's cold mine's plugged in and warmed via home automation if it's at the house so I could do without. It's the 3rd rifle season in the mountains that I would prefer to have the grid heater working.

Truck should start fine at below zero temps. It's going to stutter and smoke a bit but the 6.7L idles rougher than my 5.9L ever did anyway with all the emissions crap.

Earlier today mine was clear also. Tonight it is part of the recall. And my page also shows parts are available and there is a button to schedule service. Edit: That button appears to just be a generic button that takes you to the online scheduling tool, it is not specific for the recall. Both of our local dealers do not do online scheduling anyway. If Ram is not even starting the notification process for over another month, maybe they don't really think the chances of it happening are very high. I would like to disconnect mine also anyway just to be safe. But I don't really follow the diagram in post 139, above. I don't see anything that looks like that under my hood. I found a few good photos of the part on previous pages of this thread and just took another look with a flashlight. I guess the real problem I am having is not knowing on which part of the engine compartment to look for it. I will pull the truck out into the daylight tomorrow and look again but maybe someone can post a photo of the whole under hood with something marking the location of the grid heater and which wire should be disconnected?

Yesterday I had nothing and now mines listed for the recall as of this morning. Truck was delivered end of may this year. Anyone know the updated part number? Also I could feel on the backside it was smooth like a layer of silicone was there.

Our trucks were built around the same time and it appears mine has the updated relay. Thank you @Jimmy07 for saving me a trip to the dealer!









Also, i didnt know the turbos on these trucks are billet wheel... that's pretty cool.

My truck supposedly has the updated relay or at least that is what I was told after it was delivered. But that information may have been an assumption by the dealer since my truck was not listed on the original notification. Once I locate it in the engine compartment, I guess I can take it off and look at the backside to see if it looks like the one in Jimmy's photo. But even if it does, as of yesterday my truck is included in the recall. So if anyone has a relay that looks like the one in the photo, and now finds their truck on the recall, perhaps that is because Ram believes the original fix done during the time frame my truck was being built is not good enough. Maybe now they have a different fix that they want to apply to all trucks, even the ones originally thought good. Who knows. If I locate my relay and get it off, I will post a photo of what I find. At least then we will have a photo of one that was not part of the first list but now is included.
