Retrax vs DiamondBack bed cover

I think the truck is more susceptible to hail damage than the diamondback...
I would agree with that. Especially the aluminum hood

Haven't quite pulled the trigger yet. I reviewed the installation instructions for both the BakFlip and Retrax and both seem to use drain tubes at the front of the cover. I checked my bed and I don't see any evidence of holes to run those tubes to. I've got zero interest in drilling holes in my bed so think that's the elimination round.

Also finally talked to my neighbor with the DiamondBack SD on his F150. He can't talk enough about it without smiling. I was pretty certain of getting the HD but now I just can't see what the extra cost gets me. So I'm settling into the thinking of getting the SD.

I've got some motorcycle maintenance expenses coming up and some expensive shed repairs to address but hope to have one ordered by the end of the month.

there are 2 rubber plugs at the front of the bed no need to drill if you have spray in liner the plugs are tougher to remove though..... one of the first things i did when i bought my truck is drilled 2x 1/2” drain holes in the front of the box as the originals were so small and easily clogged by sand and sawdust

Ahhhh....yes I have the factory spray in liner so they must be covered.

The SuperTruck now has a SuperCover!

I'm quite pleased. My daughter helped me install it Thursday. I still yet need to tweak the front right corner so that I can latch it without someone pushing down on that corner.

I get some water in at the tailgate corners. Trying to figure out if and how I can deal that better.

I didn't realize the tailgate doesn't lock! So locking that half of the cover doesn't do much. I guess I can move the bed utility gate/divider all the way to the end for some security.

Overall, 100% pleased!

Well I'll be. You're right..I don't know how many times I checked and rechecked..I'm guessing it automatically unlocks if I have my keys in my pocket??? I just checked and left the keys in the house and sure enough it was locked. It's always the little things. THANKS!

If you have passive entry then yes it would unlock when your keys are with you

I have the retrax on my 2500. It is heavy duty and tough as can be. No way hail would be an issue. I'm happy with my choice.

How great does this cover work for when the ram boxes open? Not a huge fan of the look but functionally looks good. I really wanted a rack thatll get my kayaks over the top of my truck but having issues finding a good cover too that works with ram box

They function just fine. I have zero regrets with the Diamondback. It's secure and makes a great sturdy deck..prefer the truck to a ladder LOL. With the Ramboxes it is not a water tight solution. It's minimal. Along the sides of the bed. I was aware of that issue before I bought it. I could probably put some effort into sealing it better at the corners with some foam and silicone, but just not interested in that level of effort yet.

You can mount all of the front runner system on top on the Diamondback. So you could put a rack on top of the cover and get your kayaks over the top of the truck. At least in theory.

That's what's selling me right now. Having the issues trying to get a rack and cover to work on combo then add the rambox fitment requirement it's tough. I'm not a super fan of the look as I wanted low profile but functionality of a product always wins me over vs looks.

For what it's worth being a black cover it blends in well and doesn't look obtrusive on the truck. Per my last post I think it makes it look more rugged.

I get a ton of compliments on the cover.

I love my diamondback I’ve had it now for 6.5 years on my 2015 2500. I can’t use in summer now because I pull a 5thwheel but fall it goes back on keep snow out the back. Great to haul lumber and all kinds of stuff up on it.

I ended up selling my Diamondback HD and getting a fiberglass topper.

The DB was awesome. Loved that it can support heavy loads, so you have essentially a flatbed truck with storage below.

But…i felt like the storage below was limited/difficult to access. I had the toolbox which made it easy to grab things in the front of the bed, but stuff that was in the middle or under the toolbox was a pain to reach. Best I can describe is it was like a deep trunk on a sedan. Also you couldn’t sleep/camp in it.

As mentioned, the fiberglass topper has its drawbacks too, but it’s working out better for my uses so far.
