I have a 2021 RAM diesel with 3,000 miles on it. When I was adding DEF some of it splashed out into the diesel tank side, maybe about a tablespoon or less. The truck already had about 3/4 of tank of fuel, I top it off with diesel. I know you're not suppose to start the truck with fuel contamination but I did someone told me that it wasn't enough to hurt anything and just add water remover. I am on the road traveling back home and about 1,000 miles from home. I drove the truck 20 miles to a pilot store and then found some water remover at Pilot https://www.amazon.com/Howes-103060...001JT3I0U/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8 and added it to my fuel.

And some of your are wondering why is the diesel cap not on? What really pisses me off is that the $%@! cheaply thin cap that RAM puts on these new trucks is ridiculous. It doesn't even screw on and just fit right over the opening and not attached to the truck like the DEF cap is, it looks like it's a temporary cap you take off and throw away. So when I was fueling the truck at my last fuel up. I took the cap off and set it on the side of the truck bed and the wind came along and blew the damn thing behind the truck cab and the bed ...total BS. And there was no way I could get to it. So I figured I would buy a new one once I got back home. Well at my next fuel stop I needed DEF and when I was fueling up with DEF a small amount (tablespoon or less) ran over into the diesel.

So I am hoping that everything will be ok. I'll change the filters when I get home and also keep an eye on the water separator warning light.

You know you have a rain door on your fillerneck so shouldn't have made it into your diesel tank.

Its not a fuel cap and should be thrown out during the PDI these are a capless system i put a cheap amazon cap on only so my wife can see it clearly written DIESEL if she were to have to fuel it up is one of the rare chances she drives my truck if she never drove it i would not have bothered….

also that splash of def is harmless no need to stress over it i mostlikley never went past the filler neck flapseal unless you pushed it open with your finger…..

OH... No I didn't know that. I just saw some DEF splash over on the diesel side, the fuel door was closed but I just saw the DEF slowing disappearing as it was sitting on top of the closed fuel door into the tank. So in other words, there is a drain that prevented it from going into the tank? Thank Goodness!

Yes it was draining not going in the tank

That (tiny) drain is not just above the second flap, it's just under the first flap on the filler neck lip. Nothing will overflow unless it fills the space between the two flaps.

Anything spilled into the neck *should* remain there unless you open the second flap. I would hold the top flap open and push a rag down in there to sop up any DEF. That said, that tiny bit shouldn't cause any issue.

Another good Marion video shows this, you just have to put him on 1.5x speed.

Thank you for that video! Good explanation!

Just to give you all an update. I drove 500 miles yesterday no issues, No issue or warning lights coming on. Thanks for everyone's input. Also one thing I did notice by using this additive in it https://www.amazon.com/Howes-103060-Diesel-Conditioner-Anti-Gel/dp/B001JT3I0U. It gave me 1.6 mpg better fuel mileage. I fueled up 1 tank with is and 1 without and noticed a different in the fuel milage. I was pretty much pulling my 5th wheel on the same grade, flat ground. I got around 10.3 with the additive and 8.7 with no additive. The weight of the 5th wheel is 18,000 lbs, 45 foot.
