I wanted to stop by and say hi. I am a new owner of a Ram 2021 3500 DRW HO. My first time owning a Ram and first diesel. I am looking forward to learning from everyone here. Any newbie tips are appreciated. D79B0947-D2A1-4B04-9E53-543709692346.jpeg

You have one beautiful truck, Congratulations! I don't have any experience with the new 2021 Ram 3500 yet. I have a 2022 DRW 3500 on order and excited to receive it. Before I ordered my 2022, I researched the big 3 and kept coming back to the Ram. Ford and Chev make a good product, but I felt they were boring and somewhat outdated. I just sold my 2000 Dodge 2500 Cummins 5.9 for $20,000
I bought it 22 years ago for $30,000. I really loved that truck. I put 150,000 on the motor and it never failed me ever. I just believe you can't beat the in line 6 Cummins motors. When I originally bought my Dodge Cummins in 2000 my friends thought I was crazy, they all had Fords. I can't tell you how many problems they had with the Powerstroke. As a suggestion I recommend Redline 85 Plus Diesel Additive
My diesel mechanic swears by this stuff, never had an injector issue. Sorry for rambling on, so good luck on your new truck!

I have always been a Chevy guy. But the Mega Cab was far to appealing for my 4 dogs. I absolutely love this truck.

My tip is keep the rubber side down…..

Congrats. I have a 2022 Ram 3500 DRW on order as well. I ordered it with the big motor, aisin transmission, 4:10 gears, auto level suspension, the whole 9 yards... capable of towing over 34K pounds. I ordered the truck because I am buying a BIG 5th wheel. The New Horizons 5th wheel I just ordered may weigh as much as 28K loaded. Now people are telling me I should have gone with a Ram 5500. Any thoughts???

Your truck will do fine. 28000lbs? Toy hauler carrying a mini excavator?! That is a lot of weight, but your truck will pull it fine. Congrats on your new truck.

Who ever said you need a 5500 should be avoided as they are not worth talking too lol

Lol, thank you for the reply. I ordered a 47 ft New Horizons Majestic 5th wheel with a 10ft garage. It's a custom build (1 year wait) so all of the details have not been finalized yet. They say it will probably weigh in at about 24.5K ( empty) once complete with a GVWR of about 30K. I've seen the 3500's, if equipped correctly, tow some serious weight. I just wanted some opinions on weather or not I'm a little undersized ( no pun intended, lol).

Your pin weight is going to be well over 5k lbs and as such, the truck will be overloaded.

Will it tow 25k lbs? Absolutely it will tow that.

I am not that familiar with pin weight, but the payload of my truck is 6570lbs, is there a difference?

Not completely true custom builds they can play with it some…. But what make you assume his cap is 5k

Tow guide site shows base specs for a 3500 DRW Mega Limited @

Payload 5,450LBS
Tow 33,200LBS

We all know adding options form there and hitch, cargo etc. quickly eats up payload.

Is your truck a single cab 2wd?

Payload is the legal limit your truck can haul. Pin weight is weight of the 5th wheel pin on 5th wheel trailers. A general rule of thumb is pin weight is roughly 18-22% the weight of the trailer.

It's 100% true. His pin weight is going to be well over 5k lbs.. take that to the bank. These trailers are HEAVY and built with REAL materials, unlike cookie-cutter RVs (like what i own).

My truck is a crew cab, 4X4, H.O. Cummins, Aisin tranny, 4:10 gears, transmission, auto level suspension.

I will see how much wiggle room New Horizons has with axle placement. Like I said, 100% custom build. Maybe they can keep the pin weight between 4500-4800 lbs. My truck is rated at 5,590 lbs.
