I just got off the phone with a relative who runs a network of dealers, mostly Ford but has a Ram dealer and others.
He said all brands are in the same boat. H-D trucks are in high demand and if there weren’t supply chain issues they’d all still be struggling.
When asked about priority for manufacturing, he said it is all sold orders first vs. dealer stock, and ordering from a larger dealer may have an effect on moving you up in the list. This is in “normal” times.
Now, he said it is purely commodity-based. If they have the parts or not is how they make decisions, on what to build when, that’s it.
He said events like the chip plant fire, unprecedented high demand, and the fact that it’s hard to get people to work consistently from COVID are what’s causing this.
