Hi,

As the title reads, this is my first truck ever coming from a Chevy Tahoe. I was going to purchase a Ram 1500 Laramie this weekend but it was parked right next to Ram 2500 trademans and it just made it look like a toy truck. I was able to get a 2500 diesel granite crystal metallic with the 8in screen, cheaper then the 1500 Laramie so it seemed like a no brainer. I have so many questions I dont even know where to start.

Plans for my truck is to eliminate all the chrome, upgrade the halogen lights to the projector LED with the black housing, night edition tail lights, Carli leveling kit from CJC on 37s, performance upgrades (haven't done enough research) and is there a way to make the diesel or turbo louder

1. This is my secondary car, which I anticipating putting only 3-5k miles a year on the truck but I know oil changes are recommended every 10k miles. Should I just play it safe and do it annually even it is 5k miles. Anything else I should know as far as maintenance for diesel?

2. Can someone confirm this are the correct part numbers for the projector LED Headlights: 68360178ac and 68360179ac I know its not plug and play but with this harness it should work?

5G RAM 2500/3500 HD HALOGEN TO LED HEADLIGHT ADAPTER (PAIR) https://retroshop.us/collections/5t...3500-hd-halogen-to-led-headlight-adapter-pair

3. Sites like Moparwholesaleparts.com and mymoparparts.com sell genuine OEM parts?

4. What is the best way to eliminate the chrome bumpers and around the grill. I am looking to paint match with the rest of the truck should I order the plastic pieces around the grill because I have heard chrome tends to flake?

5. Any must have upgrades, accessories, or mods. I am located in Southern California so I would love any shop recommendations.

Thank you all, I am looking forward to be part of this great group!

Comifornia huh? you can forget about making Turbo louder as it likely involves modifying the exhaust which is a no-no where you live.
You can try wrap. Even if it chips it's cheap to replace, that's what I'm planning to do with mine even though mine bumpers are the same colors as the rest of the truck (limited) but I still have plenty of chtome pieces and I hate them.

I also put low number of miles on my truck (2019 with 7500 miles so far) but I still change oil and fuel filter every year. Just a relatively cheap insurance and working on these truck is easy. Just make sure got the right tool to take out the oil filter.
Those are the correct headlight parts number but good luck finding them. I got my driver side (68360179ac) one a month ago and still waiting for the passenger side one (68360178ac).
Also as far as I know there is also a long wait for the Carli parts. 37s fit on our truck great with the correct offset (+18 to +27).
To make your truck louder you can try S&B intake. Keep in mind that those "cold air intake" make absolutely NO performance gain but you will able to hear the turbo spin and much louder exhaust brake. I know the turbo on these newer truck will never sounds like my Lancer Evo IX but I am happy with it.
Good luck with your new truck and welcome!

There are no mods you can can do to louder and still pass emissions so put that one to bed.
Performance wise, you can get emission compliant tuning but being in Kalifornia I think you are SOL even on that. Heard they are also checking to see if the ECU has been flashed now so that's also off the table. And it voids the warranty so if that's something important to you you might just want to skip all of this.

Oil and fuel filter changes are 15K miles or 1 year. Since you won't be driving much the 1 year mark would be your interval. Given where you are and the mild climate I would push it further then that but that's me. Honestly just follow the manual for maintenance, it's all in there

Chrome is the most durable finish on the bumpers, have never seen reports of it flaking but if you don't like chrome I'm sure they can be painted.

I'm pretty sure by flaking he means the paint flaking off if painted over the chrome. No paint really sticks to the chrome.

Thank you everyone for the responses. It’s going to be 3 weeks since I purchased my truck and just wanted to share the progress.

Carli 2.5 leveling kit from CJC Offroad with Carli tuned fox shocked on Toyo MTs 37x13.5 r17s. I wanted to go 12.5 but wasn’t able to find them anywhere

Just received my carli track bar and ordered my carli torsion sway 8-12 weeks I’m assuming. Also ordered the night edition reflector headlights, night edition badges, and the door handles to attempt to do the passive entry.

Wish list Baja design fogs and A Pillar lights chrome delete and hopefully the AEV front and rear bumper when they become more readily available. Also a new steering wheel I can not believe a 2021 car/truck wouldn’t come with buttons on the wheel to control the radio

I just hit about 600 miles and the engine seemed to of got louder I hope it gets a tad louder when it breaks in.

I love this truck and it’s hard to stay out of it lol I am looking forward to be a contributing member of this forum and soak up as much knowledge as I can from everyone.

Any other must have modifications?

Did you install the S&B intake, if it makes the noticeably louder I might consider it even if there is no performance gain from it. I am currently driving around with my windows down and radio off just to listen to the diesel lol truck makes me feel like a kid again

I have the S&B and, yes, I can hear the turbo spin and much noticeable jbrake with window close even without any load in the back. Seriously it may sound ricey but I truly enjoying theengine sound.

My son just installed it on his 2021, and he said the turbo and the exhaust brake are both substantially louder now

Watching the installation video, would you happen to know the pros and cons on installing the silicon box plug? I am assuming its to keep it less quite?

On my 6.4, the silicon plug kept the noise down. Around town, I left it out to enjoy the sound of the Hemi, when towing, I put it in, because honestly, it towed better with the plug in.

I would think it keep the filter clean longer beside keeping the noise down.

Easiest options/upgrades to add if your truck doesn't have them are the anti-theft alarm (it's just a quick change with AlfaOBD) and remote start (just need to make the change with AlfaOBD and buy new key fob/s and have them programmed at the dealer).

My two (more involved, but) most recommended options/upgrades are passive entry and surround view cameras.

You can solder switches to the fob board and just have the dealer enable remote start no need to buy new keys at 200+ each. I did my tailgate release and remote start for 12$ there is a thread here with the info

My soldering skills are kinda sketchy, so there would've been a chance I'd be buying a new remote either way! I was able to get one for $90+s/h from CarandTruckRemotes.com (FYI, code: codpro1030 was 10% off), so I luckily didn't pay full price.

Be aware many have had issues getting those remotes programmed at the dealer then you're out the labor charge and have to send the remote back. They are primarily refurb (they don't come in a MOPAR parts bag).

Seems like many of you have done this and that is the reason for the increased loudness. Just as a note, I have not done it and there is no question my engine is a bit louder now than it was for the first 500 or so miles. It is not a big difference but others have noticed it also. I like a quiet truck though. :(

Will the S&B intake void your warranty? I'm waiting for my 2022 3500 6.7HO to be delivered in a few weeks. I'm getting out from my 2006 Duramax which has a really nice whistle to it. I love hearing it spool up. Lol
I wouldn't want to void my warranty right out the door just to hear the turbo spool a bit more.

Well technically no unless your engine got dusted or had a turbo failure but they will always try to deny warranty for anything aftermarket on the engine
