I imagine most guys interested in upgrading or modifying there trucks have heard of these made by Dee Zee. I was installing a headache rack and bed rails by Magnum. Part of the install includes removing the taillights to bolt down the bed rails. When I removed the right tail light, low and behold, there is 2 little ball studs in there. One mounted to the tailgate and one mounted down below the tailgate inline about 8" apart. Has anyone tried to get a strut to fit on there for an easy drop tailgate? The image is Dee Zee's version. I didn't think to take pictures of the factory ball studs until I was finished with my install.

I ordered, received, and installed the Mopar Damper-Strut 68362518AA . It took about 10 minutes.
Remove passenger side rear tail light. Push strut on to ball studs already in place from factory. Take note of up arrow on the strut for proper installation. Tailgate no longer will slam down.

This is great news!! I did not want to have to take a drill to my new truck!! Thanks for the help.

I installed the DeeZee 43301 on my 3500 last week. Quick and easy install.20191127_122925.jpg20191127_122915.jpg

Omg I have to go look at mine again since I got one on Amazon and there directions said drivers side and those ball joints weren't there

My 19 Tradesman doesn't have a strut on it but I swear it has some kind of damping built in.

The tailgate on my 2019 Power Wagon also seems dampered. I don't even have to hold it as it slowly lowers on its own

19 Power Wagon- "easy down" function. Plus you can open it with the key fob or a switch in the overhead console. Pretty nice feature.

Yeah I used that with my son. Waited for him to reach for the tailgate before I hit the key fob. He was disgusted.

Did the bare metal piece on the tailgate that the strut is attached to come with your truck or the deezee kit?

That's the same kit I had for my old 1500. The mount for the cable loop has to come off and that plate with the ball joint installed under it

Added the DeeZee 43301 to my truck this past Saturday. No drilling required. Easy install.

I misunderstood the first post and thought you guys had factory nubs on the left side of the tailgate like shown on the picture in the OP. So I was surprised when I found nubs under my right taillight while putting in LED reverse lights. This'll be an easy upgrade

Yea it killed me when I found mine, since the original instructions called for removing the drivers side and they weren't there. Guess they are on 1500s

In any case the deezee I bought won't work since it's pressurized. Im going to get an OEM one when I get a chance
