2022 HD Crowdsourced VIN/Order Tracking

I have noticed something is that last week when I ran my VIN through random VIN checks online it came up with an older Dodge 1500, now today I ran it and it came up with all my specs for the new 2022.
 
Agreed. While obvious we're tracking a small fraction of a percentage of total HD orders. I would still expect more of our orders to be getting picked up and built. Maybe 1-2 per day. But we have maybe seen one new equipment listings this week.
 
I just came across your HD Tracking spreadsheet and really like what you have going there, nice work! I couldn't easily comment to each update I can to the doc itself 1 cell at a time so I thought I would just join the forums and post here instead in the hopes that it helps with your tracking progress.

I believe I was able to complete the 22 of the 24 partial VINs in the list, NG107012 and NG122337 don't appear to be valid, perhaps they were canceled?
However, based on the location of NG107012 I thought it might have supposed to be NG117012 which did result in a BigHorn like what is listed so that was a maybe?

None of these completed VINS resulted in additional built sheets or window stickers for your totals yet though.

There were also 2 full VINs that were not valid so I corrected them under the assumption that the 8 digit sequence number was correct.

@tripleB you don't need to tell me the details, but can I assume you were able to validate that each of these VINs are correct for the given sequence number? E.g. via a FCA/Stellantis system?

I had thought about going through this exercise but didn't want to make assumptions about build being 2WD or 4WD or potentially a chassis cab if I don't have that info available.

If you're confident in these, I will update the sheet with them.

LOL. funny one person tells you your truck is built and another person says they havent even started production yet.

I ordered a 2500 4x4 laramie level b, 12" screen. 6.4, 4.10 gears. flame red. Towing tech package. NO sunroof, No blindspot, and NO safety package. order placed 6/19.

Firstly, I’m just another “Joe Shmoe” like you. This is the first time I have used this approach for HD trucks from Mexico. I have been doing something similar for the TRX’s coming out of SHAP for members of the RAMTRX forums. I assume the same build sheet scanning approach I am using for SHAP VINs would apply here as well so I adjusted for the differences in VINs for all the HD trucks and scanned your list. It also returned VINS that matched all the full VINs already in the list from just the sequence so I would personally feel confident in using them.

Also, four new window stickers tonight. :)

Just a FYI / the vin has been changed on line 25(mine). 3C63R3EL5NG104615 is the correct one.

Thanks for the heads up about those window stickers. For some reason, the window sticker and equipment listing URLs don't always return the listing for me. I have to sometimes try multiple browsers/IPs (VPNs). Do you mind sharing info with me about how you're checking the URLs? Presumably programatically rather than manually.

So, without the ability to check that a VIN exists in a Stellantis system, here's my concern:

Given a sequence number like NG121685 which we know is a
3500
Big Horn
Mega Cab
6.7L Cummins

What I don't know is if it is SRW (R3L) or DRW (RRL). Both of which would be easy to construct a valid VIN for given we know how to calculate the check digit.

And that's a relatively straighforward example because the mega cab only comes in 4WD and a short bed. For other sequence numbers, where those configurations come into question, there are even more potential VINs.

So, I've taken a more cautious approach to only list VINs I am nearly confident are correct. As I don't want to mistakenly assume a VIN is correct and continue to not find the equipment listing and window sticker and assume there's more of a backlog to be built than there really is.

I had thought about constructing all the possible VINs for orders I don't have complete info for and then constantly checking all of those potential VINs. But I haven't had time. One night I even had a more crazy idea to construct all possible VINs for every possible sequence number. But I regained my sanity shortly after.

Tell me if I'm being silly and am over thinking this. I do find this a fun problem.

I'll start off by saying no, your not over thinking it at all. :) I dove off down this rabbit hole already and have done exactly what you call your "more crazy idea"
I am using the build sheet link you mention above. As I stated earlier, I only have your couple hundred VINs you list there to verify against for STA trucks, but would with near certainty guarantee the VINs I provided to be correct. For the SHAP factory I have confirmed this same process against over 14,000 VINs so far. I am doing pretty much exactly as you describe above and checking every possible permutation of the sequence. I then analyze those returns. This only has to be done once for each sequence number. Then I have the complete VIN and can just check against the correct VIN from then on.

I'm not sure if I made it clear in my first post, but I only started with the sequence number for all 235 VINs in your list (count from yesterday). My approach gave me matching results to the 209 FULL VINs you already had so that is 209 confirmations that it worked correctly.

Another thought, there is no downside in trying the VIN's I provided, worst case you still get no build sheets for the trucks, which is what you are getting now with only the sequence anyway. Hopefully we will see some of those trucks move down the line soon and it will help confirm this approach works for STA like it does for SHAP.

As for your issue with the links not working on occasion, its a cache problem. If you clear your cache before each pull you will get fresh results. Since the download is a PDF and not an actual webpage, the "VIN NOT FOUND" PDF for each VIN will be stored in your browsers cache and returned the following day when you run your scan again even if there is an update version online.
