3500 for 10k gooseneck

I was looking at getting a loaded crewcab laramie which shows a Payload of 2100lbs to tow a 10k goose neck trailer. I also need a trailer to haul a 7k tractor. After reading the forum about the gooseneck weight distribution seems like 3500 may be necessary.

10k goose neck x 20% =2,000lbs with only 100lbs left over.

7k tractor might work on a 10k trailer depending on trailer weight., but more likely 14k
14k x 15% = 2100lbs,

Its almost nothing to go from a 2500 to a 3500 SRW SO and was leaning this way due to the weights. I would prefer the smother ride of the coils, but don't wont to cut it close and be over.


Am i correct in the above assumptions and need to get the 3500?

I would go with a 3500 SRW personally. My loaded Laramie CC long bed, HO/Aisin 3500 SRW with 3.73 gears payload capacity is 3947lbs. Max towing is 26000lbs , just for reference.

Do you have to? Probably not, but you'll have more flexibility in the end. That's why I would choose it.

Axle weights puts you at about 4k payload the 2500 10k gvwr is just stupid, personally i run my 2500 going off the axle weights not the 2040lbs on the tire sticker (thats all they check here) i have had trailers with 2700lbs on the goose neck ball problem free it handled the weight great…

that being said if you are towing it that often id go with a 3500 but if its once or twice a month then id stick with the 2500

No problem with my 2500.
Trailer 5,300, tractor w/ grapple right around 8,300, a little over 13,500# total.
And I've had well over 12,000# of rocks in that trailer multiple times, and only needed to put a little more air in the bags and increase brake power to trailer.

Here is 6 ton of stone in a 4k trailer so totaling 16k total weight with the 2500 was only going a mile otherwise i would not have overloaded the trailer but it had 0 issues and no air bags on the truck yet

I bought my '19 when they started hitting the lot. Really wished I'd have done my research on the specs because the kid helping me out seemed really damn knowledgable. Unfortunately no one ever told him the specs he was giving out are for a 2wd, base model, standard cab.

I have since driven a SRW 3500 equipped just like mine. I found the ride to be great and didn't feel like it jounced around or too stiff. I really wish I would have bought a 3500 from the start.

2100lbs payload goes real quick. Though these trucks don't mind the weight at all.

Payload on my 3500 is 5750 pounds, it's nice knowing I'll never exceed it.
