2022 Ram HD Builds and orders - Post and discuss your TRUCK order here! ** NEW USERS READ POST #1 **

Crap, Sandi didn't say anything about the 360° trailer camera system when I was going through my 2022 order process. I'm going to be disappointed verging on mad if I can't get that added to my build, especially since I wanted to go through the options line by line and listened to her about the 2022 options being basically all the same as the 2021.
Adding it will probably not happen, get ready....

They’ll should come with it… you should get 4 cameras and the wiring. From Ram’s presentation (look at kit contents):

The issue that I have with this is they ALL have to be wired......not trying to be negative.....but.....Ram gives you the Camera's, wiring etc....but only for 1 (ONE) trailer....Many people have more than one trailer, boat trailers, cargo trailers, utility trailers etc..... I want 4 WIRELESS cameras all with their own mounting system (suction cup/velcro etc....) rechargeable, internal battery power That I can quickly move/mount from trailer to trailer (reconnect via bluetooth) and that stays on ALL the time when moving down the road. I need the cameras while moving down the road just as much as when I'm backing/parking the trailer. These are 2022 (not 1982) trucks we have the technology why not build it and sell it???...so we can keep people even safer? My 2020 Riverstone Legacy 5th wheel has the Furrion wireless camera system and it is AWESOME.....I know who's behind, beside me (both sides) all the time while moving down the Interstate. It especially comes in handy when changing lanes and exiting the highway...really an Awesome system that works!....ok...I'll get off of my soap box.

I was just thinking the same thing, I have multiple trailers and was thinking what trailers do I choose to wire up? Besides the whole issue people don't keep trailers forever and so the next person I sell my trailer to the system is useless most likely.

It would be nice if there was an app for access to the cameras when you are away from the vehicle, for security reasons.

Sorry to hear, hopefully she can get a modification done. When I asked her what the differences for the model year packages were for the limited, she did flag the camera options were different but at the time had not received detailed specifics on the implementation. I also think, I could be wrong, that the camera offerings are different depending on the trim line because of the dependency on other options. (i.e. no digital mirror).

What I have gathered, RAM has not been very good at providing the information to dealers with a few dealers (from my quotes/correspondence) getting the camera options completely wrong. I think alot has to do with the manufacture struggling with all the changes to accommodate the shortages and messaging it to their vendors in a timely fashion.

The mfg slide summary of the trailer options are here: http://hdrams.com/forum/index.php?t...-for-2021s-with-digital-rearview-mirror.4615/

Both systems are hard wired and less than optimal in my opinion, I went with the single camera that tied into the digital mirror.

When I park the 5th wheel I can take the 7" screen out of the truck and plug it in inside the RV and use it as a security system...it plugs into a USB for power/recharge. I have a camera in the rear, one on each side of the RV integrated into the front side corners parking light that face down the side of the RV. There's also a camera above the side door of the RV. I can access all of these cameras at the same time with the 7" screen that came with the system. Really an awesome system.

That's what should be an option!

I'm the type that orders all the towing options whenever I order because I tow a 41ft. 5th Wheel and need all the visual info I can get. So initially, I ordered the XN1 Trailer Surround Cameras because it had to be factory-installed and sounded like it might be useful.

Then I thought more about the difficulty of hard-wiring the four cameras onto my trailer - which has rigid foam backed fiberglass sidewalls, full-body paint extending onto the roof, and Alpha-ply membrane roof that I hate to drill holes into. When I read the description and saw the pictures, I decided that the visual benefit was just not worth the installation effort if you have a 5th Wheel with an interior you just don't want to compromise. Also, I remember how cludgy the implementation of the Truck Surround is on my '20… selecting camera, shifting to Drive to pull forward, shifting to reverse, re-selecting the camera, shifting back to Drive, re-selecting the camera, etc, etc.

I would say that the main benefit of XN1 would be to longer utility and race-car type trailers (trailers that have ability to access wiring inside the trailer.

Before I had my dealer place the order, I canceled the XN1 Trailer Surround and instead ordered the XH7 Tow Mode Camera (which stays on the digital mirror while traveling). That sounds perfect for my needs and only requires fishing the camera wire up the rear cap (still very difficult).

Maybe look into this too....Just replace your side marker lights with these parking lights/cameras. Here are some systems although the cameras still need wired in some are easy just replacing your parking light with theirs.

You all make good points about having a system that's not tied to one truck and trailer combination. I'll calm down now and take comfort in the fact that there is an even better option.

I wouldn’t be surprised if a 3rd party came out with a wireless solution that integrated with the factory option

The problem with a wireless system is the "sometimes" delay on the rear camera when relying on it to observe what is behind the trailer. My previous wireless camera on the rear of my trailer would display a car behind me and it was actually in the process of passing me. I'm sure that RAM could build/purchase a 3rd party wireless system, but for bandwidth, wired is still the most reliable for safety applications. IMHO.

Looking forward to the Tow-mode camera XH7 in my rear view mirror. Now that beats GMC's disappearing trailer...

I tried to add the xh7 option but it wouldn't allow me for some reason with my build and would only allow xn1...I'm hoping I can add xh7 option after the fact or that there is a way to make it work.

Anyone got this from their dealer? Wonder if it’ll effect the truck long term and if there will be any issue without this sensor. I travel a lot for work and will be on the interstate a lot. Definitely don’t want to get stuck somewhere.
Thoughts.

If it’s really meaning the dpf and not the entire system then they probably don’t have the pressure differential sensor in the dpf. Just reads pressure in and out of the filter to know when to regen and measure how full the dpf is. Driving interstate you won’t have any issues. The exhaust temp will get high enough to burn some soot from dpf and the truck doesn’t regen as much or ever get build up bc of it. 99% of dpf issues come from grocery getting. I.e driving 5-10 minutes and shutting engine off and then getting back in and doing it again. Exhaust can’t get hot enough to deal with the soot and the truck doesn’t have time to regen if it did get hot enough resulting in the dpf getting full. When it gets to a certain level it won’t try to regen anymore and has to be cleaned (attempted to be) or in most cases replaced. I wouldn’t even worry about it unless the majority of your time is in town for short distances. If that’s the case just let the truck idle and do what you got to do.
