I am looking to get a set of 35x12.5 probably R17 mud tires for my truck in the next week or 2. I use my truck a lot for work, and I need aggressive tires since I spend so much time off road. I currently run Cooper ST Maxx tires and I have been happy so far, but I am looking into other options. I drive 35K+ miles per year, so I am looking for a mud tire or aggressive all terrain tire with a decent highway ride, or as best as I can get with a tire like that. Any suggestions to look into??

Cant speak for them in mud, but Falken Wildpeak AT3W are quiet on road, and very good offroad and in snow. They last really well too.

I am running 35x12.5r17 Toyo Open Country M/Ts. They are relatively quite and track perfectly straight on the highway. Awesome all around tire.

I still love my General Grabbers. I'm at 4200 miles so far with zero complaints.

Goodyear wrangler duratracs you can get 60k miles on em easy and they work very well in the mud….

I have run St Maxx in 35x12.5-17 and Toyo R/T in same size and Toyo is by far a better choice off road and quieter to boot and slightly bigger. The St Maxx has a slight but small advantage on ice but I have had several pairs of both and not enough to matter. I would run either again.

I'll be pulling the trigger on some Kenda Klever R/T Kr601 in 35x12.5R17's next week. Reading a lot of good things about them and they're very reasonably priced. I'll post my thoughts on them when i get them.

I love the question about mud tires (MT) and you get responses about AT Duratracs and others.

Anyways, the Cooper STT Pro is a great mud tire, wears better than expected and has traction off road that is second to none and equaled by few. It's also one of the "coolest" looking. I ran them on my JK in 37X13.5-18 since 2015. Did not matter if on the highway trips, the mountains of western Colorado or rock crawling reds at Rausch Creek... they are phenomenal tires.

In the actual post as he said mud tires or aggressive at's

I was looking for the same when I bought my tires. Like many others in our Dodge group, I consider the Toyo MT to be the leader of the pack for MTs. I narrowed my search down to the Toyo MT and the Yoko X-AT hybrid. I went with the Yoko this time. It has been a great tire so far. I know I would have been happy with either but I feel the Yoko X-AT is a little better on road.

BFG AT KO2 have excellent wear and road manors (on my 4th set). People hate on them but I don't understand why. I have been wheeling for almost 30 years and they have been really great tires for me (except for mud...they suck there). I have 30k on the set on my Wrangler and they are about 1/2 worn. I also have them on my power wagon but cannot attest to wear on an HD truck yet.

BFG MT KM3's are pretty good on the road, but wear a little quicker, have a little less wet traction, and make a little more noise. They are a better off-road than the AT so that is your trade off.

35k miles a year and mud tires may not be economical unless that isn't a factor in your decision.

I ran 37” Toyo RT’s for the first 25k miles of my trucks life and have zero complaints.

Recently installed 37” BFG MT KM3’s and Im not exactly thrilled with them. They are much louder, they hold gravel worse than any tire I’ve ever had, and the road manners are far worse than the Toyos.

That has been the general consensus in my offroad groups for the HD trucks. I did see just today that some of the Carli equipped Baja rescue rigs are testing a new BFG HD-Terrain T/A which is designed for more heavy duty use. They showed a pic of the tire but no pic of the tread. It will be interesting to see how it tests out. They mentioned they only make one size right now 285/17.
