Lift kits: Are Coil over shock kits worth the added cost?

Hello!

Ive never lifted a truck before and am looking for some advice. I’d like to lift my 2019 Ram 2500 6.7 TD 4-6” to get some 37” tires on the truck. However, I’d also like to tow a 10,000 (fully loaded) travel trailer.

Thoughts on buying a basic lift kit and upgrading the shocks to Foxx versus buying a Radium Arm Lift kit with coil springs and dirt logic shocks? I just want a smooth highway ride, and won’t be doing serious off roading (just the occasional dirt trail to camp). Also, are air bags worth it? I’ve heard no, they tend to ruin the ride, but thought I’d ask. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Start with a call to cjc off-road. Carli and Thuren are the only brands you need to be concerned with.

I second what Marshfly said. For what you’re needing get ahold of Cody over at CJC and ask him about the 19’ Pintop Leveling kit. Second to none and gives you that aggressive stance you want while keeping factory towing specs completely in tact. And he’s you can stuff a set of 37” tires with only this leveling kit.

Thanks guys, but I’m not looking for a leveling kit. I actually want a lift kit. Both of those vendors only have leveling kits, with the exception of a 3.5 lift/level kit that is very expensive. I’m going for more of an aggressive look. I like the Fabtech height of 5-6”.

I can dig it brotha. Keep in mind, what ever you do just be vigilant on product and parts. I would never want to see someone take a short cut which could cost them in the long run. Try to find a lift that utilizes true coil lifts and doesn’t use coil spacers. I personally find those types of lifts more durable and reputable. Pure Performance makes 3 different size lifts using the front and rear coils with no spacers. I know many members are patiently waiting for BDS to release theirs as well. Happy hunting.

6” lift and towing 10k doesn’t really go together but good luck. I have the 1.75” Thuren coils and 37s on my truck and wouldn’t want any higher to tow my camper.

Thank you! I was wondering if the kits with the coil over springs were worth it versus just the spacers. I really appreciate it!

Those aren’t coil overs. Coil overs have the spring combined in with the shock. They are replacement coils. The shocks are a separate part. Spacers are never worth it and frankly are dangerous on 4th gen Rams due to the angled lower coil seat and the way spacers introduce coil bow. Heavy droop can cause the coils to pop out due to the bow introduced by spacers.

I appreciate the advice as well. I know tire sidewall comes into play. As for towing with a lift kit, some people, including the install shops, recommended adding air bags to minimize sag. Again, I’ve gotten conflicting advice from my friends on this, so I thought I’d reach out. Thanks for the feedback.
