Hi everyone, I am new to this forum so please tell me if I'm doing something wrong. I went out to my barn this morning to change the fuel filter in my 2014 Dodge ram 2500 when I open the hood I noticed my battery cover was partially white. Upon further investigation I realized it was burnt can anyone help me find the cause of this. I'm stumped

That's what I originally thought when I popped the hood then I thought it might be snow but if you blow up the picture there's charred marks all the way around the white area

It does not look charred to me in the picture but its not a great picture. Its hard to say as there is nothing there that looks worry some, were you the last to open the hood? Perhaps someone did something to cause it and never mentioned it to you?

Yes I'm the only one that has been under the hood of that truck in the past year. Sorry for the bad pics but trust me those are burnt edges around the white area. I don't see any scorch marks on the battery cable underneath it or anywhere else thus the reason I am stumped

Sure looks like critters to me. Little bastards will eat anything. Is there any indication of heat or fire on the underside of the hood?

I'll say it again it's not critters. There is a slightly darkened area on the hood. Not a very big spot but it is there. I looked very carefully at the material it is burnt

To me it looks like the battery soaked the blanket with acid which evaporated, leaving behind the same powder/crystal material you get on the terminals every now and then.

The white section is fireproof material sewn into the battery cover

Maybe a better picture? The edges really don’t look burnt.

Maybe make sure your fire coverage is up to snuff. Then maybe get an exorcist . You don’t happen to call your truck Christine by chance?
