I have built many race motors, both for circle and drag cars, not to mention stock motors and have owned a few new "gas" vehicles......I know recomendations of how many miles (on the average) they are broke in.
I have 6100 miles on my 6.7 and know they can go many many miles....the many tells me service recomendations, and my initial oil was changed at 5k......any way to treat this motor for any certain time?
I did my research but have found nothing.

Thanks

No you dont have to do anything special

No break in required. The harder you work a Cummins the happier it is.

Thats the truth, i have a freind with a 12V cummins with 1.8million km and still climbing never been rebuilt its been hauling big trailers every day since 1996 ends up getting the trans rebuilt every 150K -200k km they love to work!

Awesome, makes me glad i chose a Ram, although, am sure all diesels are the same as far as workhorses.
Thanks guys

No "break in" required on the engine but the cylinder walls will continue to improve (polish) over time and mileage should* improve. The harder you work it, the sooner that will happen.

My 04.5 improved quite a bit at around 30K and all it really did was tow my fiver and toys.

* No telling with all the emissions, but historically they get better mileage after 20-30K.

Now be nice. They only become politicians because they usually are failures at everything else except being able to look someone in the eye and lie to them.

Hey as long as I have you, are you still sporting the same hairdo as you did in the early '60s when I was watching you on a black and white tv?

Probably.

Other than the garbage CP4 injection pump, the "metal" of the engine will last forever whether you change oil at 1,000 miles or 15,000 miles. It's the emissions systems that will hinder it's "go forever" ability. I have full confidence that the rotating assembly, block...etc will go forever. I have questionable confidence that the hydraulic lifters will do the same.

I have zero confidence that the emissions systems and CP4 injection pump will get anywhere near 100,000 miles without major problems. That's 100,000 miles of years of use BTW, 12-14k a year, not 100,000 all in the first year hot shot style. We're talking daily driver duites, multiple start and heat/cool cycles...etc not just turn it on and turn it off 12 hours later.

The reason I mention that is most of the guys saying "my new truck is great and has 1.21 gigamiles!" are hot shotters that don't represent the majority of us here in drive style.
