Windshield Tint Issues

I am getting the windows tinted on the 3500 and the installer brought up that they may not be able to do the windshield because of the BCM location. On the 1500 its on the A pillar above the trim, just above the lower plastic. on the 3500 it's above the brake pedal to the left slightly.

Anyone have any issues or had an installer not want to tint the windshield? Is it easier to throw a towel up there to protect it?

my tint guy had no issues tinting my front windshield. are you saying his concern is water dripping
down the back of the dash while tinting the front ? i know several guys with 2500's / 3500's with
no ill effects.

According to this video, the BCM on the new 1500 is about at the same location as you describe on the 3500. Or maybe I don't understand your description...

Anyway, watch for his solution. The 3500 should be the same.

Nice truck BTW! ;)

Yes. I watch the video above and knew there was a risk, but I find it odd, that if they know its there, they cannot protect it. This place is one of the top spots in Denver tinting exotics and expensive cars. I was wondering if anyone else ran into issue and how they mitigated it.

Thanks. The BCM in the 3500 is towards the front, angled forward slightly. It appears to be at least 6"-8" from the firewall.

Tint installer at the dealership didn't mention anything but it was only the visor line.

I have tinted every single windshield for the past 10 years on all my vehicles I’ve never had a problem with water dripping down behind the dash, they use a lot of alcohol and water while installing it but I’ve never had issues at 2018 I had to tint twice and never had an issue

Thanks. I had my previous windshields tinted as well. The issue lies with this new truck and the placement of the BCM. The installer worries about frying the unit.

Thanks. Got it done with no issues. Llumar Air 80 on the windshield, Autobahn i3 30 all around.

Do you wear polarized sun glasses? Does the Air 80 or the i3 interfere at all? I'm assuming they're all ceramic as well - any interference with key fob function?

I do wear polarized glasses and no haloing or color distortion. No interference with Fob noticed yet. Remote started my truck from across the parking lot at Sams club just yesterday with no issue. All sensors work as they should also. The Llumar Air80 is a ceramic film

My truck was freaking out after the car wash today.

I washed under the hood a bit, just spraying around the edges like I do on every one of my vehicles.

Leaving the bay, I thought it banged a gear shift or something hard, a block away the FCW and Lane Assist starting flashing warnings and freaking out.

I stopped to top off the fuel and after starting it up, it was making a chattering noise, erratic shifting while driving and the FCW and LA still freaking out. Drove the few blocks home and shot a video of under the hood. The Uconnect was not responding to all button presses as well. Shut it down and let it it sit for a few minutes. Went back out and started it up and everything seemed fine.

I'll post some video in a new thread soon.

I had the llumar 80 on my windshield back in 2013. I could see the halos. Ceramics don't interfere with RF the same way metallic tints do.

Completed. Autobahn i3 30 on the sides and rear, color matches perfectly. Llumar Air 80 on the windshield.

Must be nice guys! I can't find a single tint installer here in southern Indiana that will tint the entire windshield. They say they will only do the portion above the "AS-1 line"...whatever that is. Would love to get the truck and Vette done.

That is because it is illegal in many states to tint the front windshield below the AS-1 line. The AS-1 line is marked on the windshield about 5" from the top. You should have a little line on the actual windshield.

Just had a 2019 2500 done yesterday. Installer told me those that don’t think it thru just use a ton of water (because it makes it easier to install) and possibly cause water damage to a BCM. He put a small rag on the BCM but told me he’s done Tesla’s with no ill effect because he uses a lot less water with the windshield. After he was done the rag was bone dry.

50% heat reduction on a 70% ceramic tint on the largest glass surface in the truck makes a big difference!

just had mine done 70 percent no issues at all....ceramic solargard ir.. excellent stuff, no issues at all
