Will the mileage get better or is this what I should expect?

I just filled up for the 2nd time. I have 660 miles on the vehicle and the computer says the average MPG is 13.3.

I have been babying the truck during the break in period, avoiding interstate travel and taking the surface streets as much as possible. The few times I was on the interstate I used the adaptive cruise and set it at 55 or 65 depending on the zone. I really do like how the vehicle adjusts based on the vehicle in front of me. I just rode in the right lane and watched nearly everyone pass me except the heavy 18 wheelers and blue haired old ladies.

So is this it? 13 MPG? I hear others saying their mileage is higher. Are they exaggerating or are better MPG's in my future?

Of note... There is another thread about tire over inflation. My came from the factory at 80 psi. They are still at factory PSI. The door sticker says 65 psi. Could that be affecting my mileage?

Sorry... Truck particulars
2022 Ram 2500 Laramie MegaCab 4x4

18" wheels

Thanks!

not sure what truck you have but I have a 2020 PW ie 6.4l with 4.10's and with stock tires even when new if driving 55-65 I was getting quite a bit better than that.

Sorry... I updated my OP with the truck details.

I would think running the side streets that is killing your mileage. If you're getting almost 14 with stop signs and lights you will probably get a couple more when you're on the interstate for an extended trip of a couple hundred miles or so.

I only have around 1100 miles on my 6.4 but best I've got so far is 12.9 and that was mainly interstate setting cruise at 78. Looked at truck mpg this afternoon and said 10.3. I don't punch it or get crazy so I don't know how others report getting such good mileage. I don't drive it that much and was expecting bad mpg with a 2500, but was hoping I would get around 13.

I had a 6.4 with 3.73’s and one with 4.10’s, neither got good economy. My hwy economy once hit 16 mpg, and in town, neither saw 13 mpg

20222 2500 6.7 Night with Airbags

15-16 around town. Stop and go. Short trips.

Low 20’s highway

17ish combined

Haven’t towed yet. Probably get to that in the 2-3 weeks when the airstream comes in.

Nothing empirical but I feel as though th milage is slowly improving. I think I have about 1300 miles on the truck since taking delivery Dec 19th

Have a 21 2500 6.4 crew cab 4x4 tradesman, right at 9k miles, ….with warming it up the past month or so its getting 14.5…. Took it on a road trip over the weekend, mostly Highway miles, no interstate, and it got over 17. The stop and go really hurt its MPG more than any other truck we’ve owned. Tires shouldn’t be impacting MPG too much, ride quality for sure

^^^^He has a gasser @ ifly

I have about 8200 miles on my '21 CCSB 6.4L/3.73 truck. Running around town I see high 12's and maybe the occasional 13 on the EVIC. They are pigs - period. It is surprising that in this day and age they can't do better. That said, we didn't buy them for their spectacular fuel economy.

OP, the guys who are getting spectacular mileage are driving diesels. The gasser is a thirsty pig, but makes up for it in other ways. The pros and cons of gas vs diesel could fill a book. I have a Hemi on order and know what I’m getting myself in for. I have plenty of friends who are getting 6-8 mpg towing 10,000 lb toy haulers with gas trucks.

Despite all of this, it does sound like yours is a tad more thirsty than it should be. I don’t think that 80psi tire pressure is hurting the mileage. Although the ride is probably brutal lol.

Hopefully it will loosen up a over the next thousand miles and get a smidgeon better. Not sure what else to tell you at this stage.

Out of 4 CTD best I saw on the 2017 2500 deleted 15 in town.

2019 3500 SRW HO 3.73 gears got 14 in town.

2021 3500 DRW SO 3.73 gears 14 in town.

2022 3500 DRW HO 4.10 gears..
12~13 in town.

Disregard diesel number. My bad.

Take some air out of the tires.

I followed everyone’s advice. Made a Yuge difference in ride. Not sure about milage. Probably worse milage. More rubber in contact with the road now.

Yeah, my 6.4 only got around 7 mpg pulling 10,000 pound camper

2019 6.4 with 3.73 gears. 19,000 miles. Around town, dropping kids off at school and short trips - dash tells me 11 or 12.
If I take some longer across county trips on country roads at 45 to 55 it will start bumping up 13.5 or so. It’s been a while since I had a long interstate trip but I think it was about 16 mpg.

I agree I see some of these guys post the numbers and I’m like How?? Their getting what I get on 35’s and pulling a trailer. While I’m sitting on stock tires and 18 wheels. I added a 1 inch spacer to semi level it out but have not seen a change on the dash mpgs

I I think I have a bit of a freak....... 1 ton mega cab limited!!! Cant wait to see what it is after break in lol.
D

OP is a gas, not diesel.

Also.. OP, at 80 psi, your MPG is going to be better, not worse than if you air down to 60psi. As info...

Not sure where you live but I've always gotten better mileage in the summer vs winter. Both gas and diesel. Especially city driving..
