I didn't realize there'd be such a plethora of choices. Some plastic, some aluminum, some cheap, some not quite so cheap.
I would think the plastic type would seal better than the aluminum ones (I didn't see any with gaskets or o-rings).

So looking for some guidance/suggestions on what works well.

Thanks

I got an aluminum one. The gasket on the filter provides the seal. Works great with no leaks.

I probably go overboard to prevent any oil from slopping over when I initially unscrew the filter. I put two nested Ziploc bags over the bottom of the filter and drill a 3/16 inch hole near the bottom of the filter to drain it all out. When it stops dripping, I remove the filter. I fill a new filter about 3/4 full with new oil, then use the filter plug to put the new filter in place.

I use the Lisle tool for capping the filter. Works great and it's a brand I trust, and that has been around a long time.

That’s a tool if harbor freight sold it would probably be ok. Low frequency useage and not mission critical if somehow it were to fail. I bought the cheapest one I could find and that does not happen often.
