I haven’t checked it myself, and I’m wondering if any of y’all know…

Is the electric heater always on or is it enabled by the climate control only when heat is needed?

Requirements for the cabin heater to come on are:
- outside air temp below 68°F
- coolant temp below 158°F
- above 700 RPM
- battery above 12.6v

Is it possible to add the electric heater to a Hemi truck? I know diesels take longer to get to temp, but instant hot air would be nice in the winter

Yes. You’d have to swap out the HVAC box for the one with the slot for the cabin heater, wire it all up, and enable the cabin heater relay circuits with AlfaOBD.

So not quite plug n play :(

The hvac box involves removing the whole dash right?

Shoulda had them do that hvac box with the hvac tsb lol

Would be a waste of time and money, my 19 electric heater is basically useless it unfogs the windows thats about it. The cabin only starts heating up when the coolant starts building temp

All 3 50A heaters provide about 2000W of heat, which isn't earth shattering but I do feel warmish air when they are on and really does help rapid defrosting of the windows.

Even if it is only effective in defogging windows that beats waiting for the coolant to warm up enough to do the job .

You might be better off just adding a coolant block heater. Granted you'll have to plug it in but it'll warm up faster.

I've never been impressed with it. plugging it in provides faster heat.

While I don’t have much time plugged in on the ‘22 it does provide faster and better heat than my ‘05 did after being plugged in. It’s noticeably better than my ‘18 was too, nothing like a hot block but noticeable.

I can only imagine that cabin heat and plugged in would be a pretty good combo.

I'm a sucker for plugging in wherever I can, when it's cold enough. it will keep the window clean, unless it blows hard overnight. keep 2 100' extension cords just in case. instant heat is unbeatable!

They all have a block heater from the factory
What do you mean they all have them?
I thought you had to either spec it with the heater or order the block heater kit separately and install the thing, route the cord, etc?

Good to know…so to “enable” I just need to plug the cord into the heater element? For clarity…are we talking about Cummins and a hemis, or just Cummins?

Do you know the part number for the cord?
