On the Ram website, it says it is 79.4 inches. In the fleet buyers guide, it says 83.5.

I would say 83.5 would be incorrect. If that were the case, they would be required to have clearance lights.

If a truck is over 80 inches wide, does it automatically come with clearance lights?

My 2020 2500 have clearance lights. Does it depend on the package also?

I believe the clearence lights he is referencing is side marker lights and even some duallys have no cab clearance lights they are not needed for the width

Got it. I know some people call the roof light "clearance light".

The roof clearance lights are also required on vehicles 80” or wider (US, not sure about Canada). There must be three mounted “as high as practically possible”. The cab roof clearance lights are an option on 2500 & 3500 SRW Rams, so that means it must be less than 80” wide.

I can't find it documented anywhere, but what I was told previously was that the "exterior width" as listed on the ramtrucks site is the width of the truck body itself.

The "overall width" as listed on the fleet guide and a few other places includes the width of the mirrors (with them folded in).
