I've never ordered a vehicle from the factory, but I'm considering ordering a PW. How does the process work? Do you just go in and tell the dealer what you want, put some money down and wait for the truck to be built?

Thanks,
Keith

I started by building the truck online on the Ram site. Then went with that to dealers.

Build it using the RAM website with what you want and print out the result. Take that to your dealer and they will sit down with you and build it on the computer. Sometimes the actual build can differ from the website build (options, availability, etc.). Negotiate an acceptable price, put down a deposit and play the waiting game.

Same. First, I was able to go to a dealer and look at a 75A PW before doing anything. That visit cemented the fact of what I wanted and how I wanted to configure it. I built it on the website to configure the truck the way I wanted it. Then, I contacted the dealers in the area to ask their different pricing. I found that the original dealer I went to was the lowest in the area, so I contacted the original salesman and told him I wanted to order one. I emailed him the spec sheet from the website and we set an appointment for me to come in and finalize the ordering paperwork and drop a deposit check off. Once the truck arrived, I went in to complete the purchase, trade in my old truck and they handed my deposit check back. I drove the new truck home.

I saw a window sticker of a truck I liked on the dealers (Dave Smith) website. I couldn't come to an agreed price from DSM.
I then copied the sticker, and forwarded it to numerous dealers.
Mark Dodge was the best deal.
Deposit given with Visa, 50 days later truck was on their lot.
Easy Peasy.
The hardest part was talking to numerous dealers. A total waste of time.

Thanks for the replies guys. How much of deposit do you put down and was that refunded to you when the truck arrived, or just applied to the purchase?

I had to put 500 down and they are applying that to the purchase price. Guess it all depends on dealer and deal worked out.

I put a $1500 check down and they gave it back to me with the rest of the paperwork. I could have had them run it, but I already had my financing lined up, so it would have been more paperwork.

I did $1000 thru paypal and they applied it to the purchase.
Also there are some things the dealer can do/order that you cant do on the RAM website.
One being getting a monotone color other than black. ;)

I have never had to put money down when ordering a truck but that may be different between dealers

I had dealers requesting anywhere from $500 to $1500 down payment before they would place the order. Some dealers would not make orders, you buy what they have or nothing at all.
I built the truck on the Ram website, obtained the PDF copy, emailed out to approx 15+ dealers and waited for them to respond with their offers. Some dealers would not work via email, in person only so they were eliminated from my list.
After working through the list I choose my dealers based on great communication, upfront information and a they worked out the best price as well.
Everything was done via email until the day I placed the order which I completed in person.
Currently at 60days today and truck is still in D status, has been for over 1 month, with VIN just waiting for a place in line for build queue.
