What is my truck doing here?

First, sorry for the shaky photo. It was a rough, hilly, winding road and my wife was leaning across the console to try to capture a transient event.
Second, apparently I don't know how the driveline on these trucks works, which I should - especially before I get into ice or snow.

I've already described the conditions. The truck was in 2WD (indicated) but both axles would light up on the display which I take to indicate power was being applied to both axles. How does that work?

I probably could have been more clear in the OP. The axles weren't illuminated all the time. It seemed they would light up whenever I was going uphill, though I did observe them both light at least once going downhill with no brake or go pedal applied. I don't think the rear axle ever lit up without the front axle lighting up as well.

I’ve seen mine randomly flash like that in 2WD as well. I think it’s a software bug.

Last night I drove home with this on. Looks like it doesn't do anything more than react to turning the steering more than 2 degrees. Just like you happen to be in the picture. If you had it in one of the 4wd settings it should show something different. I take it to be no more than a thing to look at. The Off-Road pages on the 12" screen do similar things.

The pitch and roll only displays below 25 mph so I had switched it to the drive line display. I agree it's nothing more than eye candy when driving on the road.
My old Ford had a display that showed the steering angle that proved helpful every now and then, I imagine this display, while not quite as graphical, could do the same.

I’m pretty sure he’s referring to the fact that the axles are highlighted in yellow, which they usually are not in 2wd.
